The rumors about Michelle Obama and Barack Obama’s divorce refuse to die down. For a long time, speculations have been going on about the couple separating or divorcing, though neither of them have ever publicly acknowledged any such thing or even talked about it.
Now, after Michelle Obama posted pictures of her vacationing with her daughters Sasha and Malia in Spain, netizens were quick to point out that Barack Obama was again missing from the frames.

As reported by Atlanta Black Star, “Photos of the former first lady and the girls wearing dresses while dining at the Lobster Club in Mallorca landed on the internet this week. They dined with longtime family friend Michael Smith, the Obamas’ longtime interior designer, and his partner, James Costos, former U.S. ambassador to Spain.”
As the pictures made it to the social media, netizens started with their comments, with one person asking, “Ever notice how she is never with her husband anymore? Why’s that?” Another one added, “Michelle is aging badly. While Barack is becoming quite handsome as his years pass. No wonder he prefers to keep his distance.”
An user on Instagram asked, “Where’s Dad???” as another person joked that “Barack wasn’t invited!.” One user was rather confident with their comment, as they said, “We all know what’s going on Michelle, so to me very boring.”
The divorce speculation, which has been going on for a while now, gained significant momentum from January 2025 when Michelle skipped Jimmy Carter’s funeral and President Donald Trump’s second inauguration and Barack attended both of these major events alone.
With the rumors going wild as The View host Meghan McCain directly claimed that the couple was separated, Michelle addressed such speculations and denied them on Work in Progress, a podcast by Sophia Bush.
On the podcast, Michelle said, “We as women struggle with disappointing people. So much so that this year, people couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself. That they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing.”
She further added, “This couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions herself, right? But that’s what society does to us.” She added, “And if it doesn’t fit into the sort of stereotype of what people think we should do, then it gets labeled as something negative and horrible.”

Besides never publicly acknowledging any trouble they are going through, the couple also makes sure that they are there for their daughters. On Sasha’s 24th birthday, both of them wished her well and posted the same on their social media accounts. Moreover, they also make sure to spend time with their daughters, even if separately.
Michelle also posted a throwback picture with Barack and their daughters on Fathers Day to express her gratitude to the former American president for being there for his family “even when it felt like the weight of the world was on his shoulders.”

While their separate public appearances continue to fire the separation speculation, neither of them have offered any more comments on that. It now remains to be seen if Michelle has anything to say to the way netizens have reacted to her recent outing with her daughters.
