Vice President JD Vance and President Donald Trump have been a controversial duo to exist in office together since Trump came into office in January 2025. Even though Vance might have all the praise in the world for the Trump administration, we know that wasn’t the case earlier.
Vance once called Trump ‘America’s Hitler, an idiot and compared him to Nazi ruler Adolf Hitler, yet their backgrounds couldn’t be more different—Trump, a billionaire by birth, and Vance, a self-made author who grew up in a middle-class family with a mother who struggled with drug addiction and money most of her life. The only thing that keeps them bonded despite stark differences in their backgrounds is their ambition and egos.

As per The List, there have been several instances where Vance’s ego was quite noticeable. For instance, in March 2025, pro-Ukrainian protestors disrupted their stay. The New York Post reported that the family had to relocate to an “undisclosed location.”
Vance took to X (formerly Twitter) to say, “These people are such idiots.” Later, he attempted to clarify, stating that they merely switched hotels for more privacy for the children. Still, critics on social media were quick to accuse him of being over the top and contradicting himself.
Another instance was his speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention. Despite once mocking long speeches, Vance spoke for nearly 40 minutes, invited his mother onto the stage, and gave her and the family name credit, as he believed that his struggle from a nobody to the next vice president of America was commendable.
On the other hand, Donald Trump’s inaugural speech lasted 99 minutes, which made history for its duration (it was 10 minutes longer than Bill Clinton’s historic 2000 speech). Which JD Vance did not like but had to tolerate. Though JD Vance may struggle to sit through a lengthy Donald Trump monologue, he doesn’t seem too concerned about conciseness when it’s his turn at the podium for speeches.
Vance’s speech was also condemned for being filled with inaccuracies and half-truths, echoing Trump’s approach to public speaking. Like his running mate, Vance appears to believe that simply saying something, no matter how questionable, is enough to make it true.
Furthermore, day by day, his public remarks and speeches have become like those of President Donald Trump, who is full of controversial and blunt statements.
In a 2021 appearance on Fox News, the then-senator took a swipe at Democrats and women without children, arguing the country was being run by “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too.”

As soon as he received backlash for his insensitive remarks, JD spoke to NBC News and clarified that people misinterpreted his statement and that he regretted it. The clearest sign of JD Vance’s growing ego came during an interview on CNN’s State of the Union, where he admitted he was willing to make up stories just to get the media’s attention, which, by the way, has been a known tactic for all the MAGA supporters of the administration.
He said this after spreading a false claim that Haitian immigrants were eating Americans’ pets. His justification? “If I have to create stories so the media pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do.”
In addition, as expected, this surprising statement sparked backlash. Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg responded on X, calling it a “remarkable confession” and saying Vance admitted he would lie to change the media’s focus.

If anyone was wondering why Donald Trump picked JD Vance as his running mate, it’s pretty evident now. However, with Vance’s ego growing fast, it might not be long before it outshines Trump’s, and Trump is not known for liking competition; maybe reports already suggest that Trump believes that JD Vance may not be his successor to be the next in power.
What do you think? Will he? We doubt so!
