President Donald Trump took his signature rambling style to new heights this week. He delivered a head-turning monologue about water pressure, showers, dishwashers, and even divine plumbing.

While visiting Florida’s controversial “Alligator Alcatraz” detention center, where nearly 5,000 undocumented immigrants will be held in tents in the Everglades heat surrounded by alligators and pythons, Trump paused to hold a press conference that quickly veered off course.

Boasting that he had signed “more executive orders” than President Joe Biden, Trump used the moment to revisit an old grievance, water pressure regulations from previous administrations.

“You buy a house, you have a faucet in the house, and the water doesn’t come out. They have a restrictor in areas where you have so much water; they don’t know what to do with it. You have a shower head, the shower doesn’t — you think it’s not working, it is working. The water is dripping out.

That’s no good for me. I like that head nice and wet,” Trump said, punctuating the moment by whipping off his hat and running his hand through his hair. He lamented the struggle of needing “20 minutes to get that soap out of the hair.”

“It sounds funny, but it’s really not. It’s horrible,” he continued, blaming “crazy people” for regulations on “showers, toilets, and sinks, and washing machines.”

He also claimed industry insiders had confided in him about the impact of these rules on manufacturing. “People from Whirlpool” supposedly told him they were unable to build competitive products under the old rules.

Now, he claimed, such restrictions were a thing of the past. “Do you have problems with water? ‘No, we have so much that we don’t know what to do with it. You know, comes down from heaven,'” Trump said, in a line that drew particular attention online.

As if that wasn’t enough, Trump also crowed about his battle on behalf of plastic straws, dismissing paper versions with comedic flair. He was “tired of having [paper] straws melting in my mouth.”

This isn’t the first time Trump has waged war on plumbing regulations. Back in April, he signed an executive order aimed at rolling back the supposed “overregulation” of showerheads and appliances.

“President Trump is slashing red tape and ending Biden’s dumb war on things that work. By restoring shower freedom, President Trump is following through on his commitment to dismantle unnecessary regulations and put Americans first,” his administration declared at the time.

Trump also made it clear during that announcement that he had big plans. “We’re going to get rid of those restrictions. You have many places where they have water, they have so much water, they don’t know what to do with it. But people buy a house, they turn on the sink, and water barely comes out. They take a shower, water barely comes out. And it’s an unnecessary restriction.”

The order also targeted other household appliances, including gas stoves, water heaters, furnaces, dishwashers, and washing machines.

But while Trump relished the moment, many online were left scratching their heads.

“I guess the showers don’t work at Mar-a-Lago,” one commenter snarked. “He is slowly becoming a comedian,” another user wrote.

Others weren’t buying his “man of the people” routine at all. “He tries so hard to be relatable…..he doesn’t know what the average American needs,” one critic posted.
