Frustrated employees are often seen cribbing about their boss and workplace. It can happen during coffee breaks, informal outings, or even anonymously on the Internet. Recently, an Amazon employee vented out his feelings about Jeff Bezos‘s enormous wealth on Reddit, and the thread is now going viral.
In his rant, he posted an image of Jeff Bezos’ luxury yacht worth $500 million, highlighting its exorbitant features in detail. With the help of the graphics, the anonymous Reddit user described that Bezos’ superyacht named Koru has two separate dining areas with a seating capacity of 10 and 12 each.
It has two bars, two hot tubs, a plunge pool, a central outdoor pool, and lounge areas. With its 417-foot length, Koru is reportedly the largest sailing yacht in the world. The ultra-luxurious yacht can host 18 guests and 36 crew members. Apart from its price tag of $500 million, nearly $25 million is spent annually for maintenance.
The frustrated Reddit user sarcastically advised fellow Amazon employees, “Make sure to work harder so he can buy a second one.”

The post was made on a subreddit with the name r/AmazonFC made for “current, former and potential Amazon employees to discuss and connect.”
Someone replied to the thread, “No single human should have this much wealth.” Another unhappy employee commented, “He can buy all that but can’t pay all his “slaves” better salaries.”
However, many people found the rant in bad taste. Someone wrote, “Why don’t you start one of the biggest companies in the world and stop crying?” Another user added, “Envy is not a good look.”
However, the problem with Bezos’ super yacht isn’t limited to his display of wealth. Concerns about its environmental implications have been raised multiple times in the past. In 2023, The New York Post published an article based on a report by Indiana researchers, which states that Koru “produces an astounding minimum of 7,154 tons of greenhouse gasses annually,” which is nearly “447 times the entire annual carbon footprint of your average American.”
The findings contradicted Jeff Bezos’s mission to help fight climate change as he has committed to spending $10 billion over 10 years through the Bezos Earth Fund.
Indiana anthropology PhD candidate Beatriz Barros, who analyzed the ship’s emissions, said that billionaires like Bezos are invested in “issues like climate change and carbon emissions, and publicly, they are very vocal about that but because they are so rich and so powerful, they feel like they are entitled [to travel in carbon-producing superyachts], whereas you and I should drive less, should eat less meat.”
Boating industry experts highlighted Koru’s “green” ability to travel via wind power. However, Barros pointed out that his giant vessel with three masts generates “a slew of greenhouse gasses just by heating and cooling the vessel and powering the ship’s various over-the-top luxury amenities such as its sauna, pool and theater,” as per The Post.
“I don’t see how, how in any way this can be considered to be environmentally friendly,” Barros said as per The Guardian.

“There is an emotional and physical disconnect from the rich and climate change,” said Dario Kenner, author of ‘Carbon Inequality: The Role of the Richest in Climate Change.’
“The poorest people live closest to toxic air facilities, refineries, places where pollution is dumped,” he said, explaining land is cheaper in those areas. If you’re rich, you’re rarely in contact with environmental disaster zones — you’re more insulated from extreme weather, from air pollution,” Kenner added.
Koru was built in the Netherlands by Oceanco and made its first voyage in April 2023. Jeff Bezos is set to tie the knot with Lauren Sanchez this year on his yacht.
