According to a report, the ring is worth over £300,000 today. The 12-carat Ceylon sapphire surrounded by diamonds was first purchased by Prince Charles for Princess Diana in 1981 for £28,000. Prince William gave it to Catherine as a historical tradition when he proposed to her in 2011. While the ring became an acknowledged symbol in pictures and paparazzi pictures, of late, Kate has been seen wearing a stack of eternity rings estimated to be worth around £10,000.
According to experts at Steven Stone Jewelers, the move marks a shift toward personal symbolism and practicality. “Kate’s choice reflects a preference for meaning and subtlety over opulence while still exuding elegance and sophistication,” said Maxwell Stone in a statement to MailOnline. He added, “Though her engagement ring has been seen less often, her commitment to Prince William remains clear through her choice of meaningful, understated jewellery.”
