Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly planning a coronation ceremony that will differ significantly from King Charles III’s. As King Charles battled his ill health, reports said Prince William and Kate could be asked to take over as England’s next king and queen sooner than they expected.
Queen Elizabeth died on 8 September 2022 at Balmoral Castle at 96. Soon after, Charles and Camilla became the king and queen of England. However, Charles was diagnosed with cancer in February 2024, and right after Kate Middleton was also diagnosed with it in March 2024. While the royal family went through a very tough time during that time, followed by ruthless media scrutiny, in January 2025, Middleton announced on her social media that her cancer was now in remission. Since then, she has been spotted in the press again after her recovery.

As per Raderonline.com, as William and Kate gear up to take over the throne, they reportedly plan a fresh, modern approach to the future King’s coronation. This approach will depart significantly from the traditions followed during King Charles III’s lavish 2023 ceremony. Royal insiders say preparations are underway, and William is set to do things his way.
Media reports suggest that both Prince William and Kate Middleton want a less formal coronation that is more relatable to people and requires less effort. This shift is part of a broader effort to modernize the monarchy and connect more closely with the British public. When Charles was crowned king, reports suggested that about $90 million (66 million pounds) was spent on the ceremony, which seemed like a major waste of funds.

“The emphasis under Charles was on dignity and formality, lots of old-fashioned pomp,” royal author Tom Quinn told the media. “William and Kate are determined to change that. They want something more stripped down, more modern.” Furthermore, one major change in Prince William’s upcoming coronation is removing the “homage of the people”—a part of King Charles’s ceremony where the public was asked to swear loyalty to the King.
Prince William feels this tradition is outdated and plans to skip it. According to the outlet, royal journalist Phil Dampier says William “plans to do things his way” and ” wants to be the best king possible when the time comes.” Meanwhile, Kate Middleton will reportedly not wear the traditional crown with the Koh-i-Noor diamond, which has caused international media scrutiny. Countries like India have claimed it never belonged to the British.

The largest cut diamond has passed through many hands, and in the 19th century, the British took it. Whether it was stolen or gifted remains a never-ending debate in history. Since it arrived in the U.K., it has only been worn by women in the royal family, and it is said to bring bad luck if a man wears it.
Therefore, the Princess of Wales is set to skip the crown and instead wear Queen Mary’s Crown, updated with diamonds worn by Queen Elizabeth II. In addition to these rules, the guest list will also be smaller. While King Charles invited over 2,000 guests, William plans to reduce the number further and focus on close mates and world leaders.

In addition, like all ceremonies since 1066, this one will be held at Westminster Abbey and telecast live on all media outlets. In the meantime, Queen Camilla’s role will transform, too. After King Charles passes, she won’t be called the “Queen Mother,” since that title is for the monarch’s mother.
This title only belonged to the Late Princess Diana. Instead, she may be known as the Queen Dowager and step back from royal duties.
Once Prince William becomes King, Kate Middleton will take on the title Queen Catherine, or formally, Her Majesty the Queen Consort.
The couple’s kids will also have new titles; since George is the eldest of all the siblings, he might take on the title of Prince of Wales. Kate will reportedly arrange the coronation ceremony. She will help plan the food and music, and the menu will focus on healthy dishes.
Therefore, Prince William and Kate Middleton wanted a simpler, more modern, and more in tune with today’s world type of coronation ceremony. We can’t wait to witness a new decade in the history of the British monarchy with King William and Queen Kate Middleton in power!
