Young New Orleans Cop Dies After Trending Cosmetic Surgery

Days after receiving a Brazilian butt lift and complaining of “extreme pain” a young New Orleans police officer dies after getting the dangerous cosmetic operation.

Anamin Vazquez, Wildelis Rosa’s older sister, told NBC6 that the 26-year-old told her family she was going to Miami from New Orleans for her birthday in March without telling them she was going to get the nip and tuck procedure.

At the Prestige Plastic Surgery Clinic in South Florida, Rosa, a US Army Reservist who had recently returned from deployment in Kuwait, had pre-operative blood work completed on March 19. The next day, doctors took fat out of 12 different parts of her body and injected it into her buttocks.

According to an invoice for her Brazilian butt lift, or BBL, Rosa paid $7,495 for the cosmetic operation, which is reportedly less expensive in Miami but often costs between $6,000 and $18,000 in the US. Three days following the procedure, Rosa informed her family about her BBL while she was recuperating at a short-term rental.

However, Vazquez claimed that they sensed “something is wrong” right away. “I hope you’re doing okay and enjoying your birthday,” I texted her. However, there was no response, Vazquez stated. On March 23, Rosa passed out in the restroom and was discovered unconscious by an unnamed friend who was staying with her the following morning. They gave her CPR right away, but she had already passed away.

According to NBC6, the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner determined that she died from a pulmonary embolism caused by blood clots related to cosmetic surgery.

Rosa complained of “extreme pain” at her follow-up appointment the day following her surgery, according to her friend, and while she was staying at their rental, she was having trouble breathing and her blood pressure had been “drastically” falling. Her buddy also reported that she had dilated pupils, pale skin, purple lips, and no feeling in her legs or feet the day before she passed away.

Rosa also contacted another acquaintance the night before she passed away, complaining about her blood pressure and circulation problems in her feet, according to her distraught sister. Vazquez thinks her baby sister might still be with them if these warning indicators had been taken care of.

She stated that her sister, the youngest of five siblings, had hoped to work for the FBI one day before her life was cut short, adding, “That’s the part that we have to live with because it was unnecessary for her to die…to die like that.” According to NBC6, Rosa’s passing is the latest in a series of Miami cosmetic surgery-related tragedies.

Over the past three and a half years, the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office has certified 25 deaths involving various physicians and clinics that resulted from complications with cosmetic operations.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Brazilian butt lifts have been performed since the 1960s but became quite popular in the 2010s due in large part to social media trends and celebrity endorsements. Between 2014 and 2015, the number of procedures performed increased by 30%.

Nearly 30,000 BBL surgeries were carried out in the US in 2024, accounting for 28% of all cosmetic procedures carried out there. According to the National Library of Medicine, cosmetic surgery has one of the worst death rates despite its widespread use, with about 1 in 15,000 patients passing away since safety regulations were rigorously implemented in 2019.
