Vice President JD Vance‘s first Indian-American wife, Usha Vance, has been in the news ever since she was spotted right beside her husband on the inaugural day. Several people were curious about the Yale graduate, and many articles started talking about her life, background, and the couple’s love story.
However, recently, tabloids have also started noticing her sense of style, which has evolved quite a bit since she became the second lady at the beginning of the year. Once known for her understated, minimalist wardrobe during her legal career, the 39-year-old Second Lady has gradually embraced a more refined, polished aesthetic that fits her role as a public figure.
As per The Irish Star, even though the ideal MAGA campaign image involved sporting a blonde look, possibly some botox treatments, tight clothes, and high heels (yes, Karoline Leavitt, all spotlights on you!), Usha Vance decided to follow her own route when it came to her outfit choices.
Usha’s current fashion choices lean toward bold colors, tailored silhouettes, and elegant statement pieces that reflect her confidence and heritage without sacrificing authenticity and comfort.
Moreover, coming from a humble background, she constantly highlighted the need to be authentic and in touch with herself. Despite media scrutiny and rumors about her and Vance’s relationship, she has maintained a “keep calm and carry on” attitude.
According to the outlet, she said, “To me, the highest priority right now is to be actually a normal person,” she once said, brushing off expectations to fit into a particular mold. Her journey—from growing up in a middle-class immigrant household in San Diego to studying history at Cambridge and law at Yale, where she met JD in 2010. They have three children together: Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel.

The couple has been married since 2014, and despite being extremely different from each other, they made a connection that eventually turned to love, and they went on to build a life together. As JD’s political career soared after a lot of personal and professional struggle, Usha continued to stand by him like a rock.
Not only did the media see a transition in how the pair navigated partnership in the spotlight, but they also saw Usha’s style transform. From the striking off-shoulder blue gown she wore during her Republican National Convention speech to the coordinated red dress she donned with Melania Trump. Usha’s style has grabbed eyeballs.

Usha also looks ravishing in tailored suits, formal skirts, jumpsuits, and monochromatic sleeveless dresses, reflecting her toned arms. Last month, in April, she donned a red dress from a self-titled brand created by London-based Indian fashion designer Saloni Lodha during her visit to the Akshardham Temple in New Delhi, India.
Other outfits included a blue and white striped dress with a flared skirt, which she paired with floral earrings, loafers, and minimal makeup, which was perfect for the Indian summer.
For someone like Usha, whose ancestral roots are in Vadluru village of West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh, it was a memorable moment for her to embrace her culture after such a long time. Usha is the daughter of Radhakrishna and Lakshmi, who immigrated to the United States in the 1980s.

During an interview, Usha addressed her fashion choices. She said, “For what it’s worth, my reception into this world – and I’m not from a particularly wealthy background, not from a very fashion-oriented background personally or professionally – has been really positive. People don’t seem to care all that much what I look like.”
While Usha Vance might not have followed the classic and traditional outfit choices like most First and Second ladies, she has managed to carve out a path of her style, which the media seems to notice. We are excited to see what’s in store for the second lady as we are about to hit the second half of 2025.
