Donald Trump blames Canada for failure

Donald Trump is addressing Canada again, this time to address their alleged failures. The President took to social media to pen a lengthy post about how Canada has failed to “stop the drugs from pouring into our country.”

Trump has blamed Canada more than once for the alleged influx of fentanyl into the United States. His most recent claims come in the form of a post on Truth Social. Trump took to the platform to post a letter that he wrote to the Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney.

“Dear Mr. Prime Minister, It is a Great Honor for me to send you this letter in that it demonstrates the strength and commitment of our Trading Relationship,” he began. Trump went on to note how the States has continued to work with Canada even after the nation “financially retaliated” against America.

In the letter, Trump claims that the hefty tariffs he imposed on Canadian goods were in light of the “Nation’s Fentanyl crisis.” He went on to allege that the tariffs were necessary because of Canada’s failure to stop “drugs from pouring” into the United States.

Trump noted how Canada “retaliated” by imposing tariffs instead of working with America. He also revealed how Canadian goods will see a 35% tariff starting on August 1, 2025. In the letter, Trump notes that the tariff in question is “separate from all Sectoral Tariffs.”

The letter addresses how “transshipped goods” will see an even higher tariff. “As you are aware, there will be no Tariff if Canada, or companies within your Country, decide to build or manufacture product within the United States,” the President noted.

Trump also noted that his administration would assist in “quickly, professionally, and routinely” getting approvals. The 79-year-old also threatens to let the tariff wars go on and add an additional 35% tariff if Canada decides to raise their tariffs again. “Whatever the number you choose to raise them by will be added onto the 35% that we charge,” the letter addressed to Carney reads.

The President also claimed that the alleged fentanyl flow is not the only problem that the US is facing because of Canada. He pointed out how Canada charges a 400% tariff on American farmers. “The Trade Deficit is a major threat to our Economy and, indeed, our National Security!” Trump claims.

He goes on to note that he would consider an adjustment to the tariffs that are being imposed currently under one condition. Trump urged Canada to work with him to stop the alleged “fentanyl flow.” He claimed that he could modify the tariffs “upward or downward” depending on the relationship between the two countries.

Towards the end of the letter, he notes how Canada will “never be disappointed” with America. “Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he concludes. Canada isn’t the only country that is facing an update on the tariff percentage. The President recently revealed how Brazil would now face a 50% tariff.
