Trigger Warning: This article mentions details about horrific deaths due to flash floods.

Deadly floods in Texas have devastated the state in ways that we cannot even imagine. While social media and news channels have made every effort to cover real-time reporting and daily stories, what we see online is only a portion of the actual reality of what the floods look like. At least 119 people were confirmed dead as of midday Wednesday, in the horrific floods, according to local law enforcement and Texas Gov.

A family in Texas is grieving after a father and his wife were swept away by these flash floods at a Kerrville campsite on July 4, leaving behind heartbreaking goodbye messages. Jeff Ramsey, 61, and his wife, Tanya, 46, were affected when rising floodwaters overtook their camper early that morning. Before his death, Ramsey left emotional voice messages for his children, telling them he loved them and warning them of the danger.

As per The Mirror, the Ramseys were among at least 119 confirmed dead in widespread Texas flooding that left more than 150 people still missing as of Wednesday. “My sister and I woke up to the worst voicemail imaginable,” said his son. “He just said, ‘I love you… I think this is it.'” Reportedly, Jeff Ramsey also warned his son, Jake, of the dangerous water levels of the floods in the voicemails.

Tanya Ramsey’s brother and mother, who were staying in a nearby cabin, received a call from Jeff in time to escape. While they couldn’t locate the couple, they were able to rescue the Ramseys’ beloved dog, Chloe. “We were overjoyed to hear Chloe was safe,” said Jake. “She was such a big part of their lives — having her back means the world.”

Jeff Ramsey’s final voicemail, filled with the sound of rushing water and his wife’s panicked cries of “We’re dying, we’re dying,” he said. He called when he knew there was no way out. It was short. He told me he loved me and said to tell my sister he loved her too,” his son said.  While the National Weather Service had issued a flash flood warning to Kerrville around 1 a.m., the city’s mayor said he did not receive the alert until roughly 5:30 a.m. By then, it was too late.

The couple had already been swept away by the high-speed rushing waters before the alert reached the mayor and authorities reached the camp. As per the New York Times, officials in Kerr County are facing growing scrutiny over their emergency response. However, the team is trying its best to rescue the couple through debris from destroyed cabins, campers, and trailers, particularly along the Guadalupe River. Reportedly, Jeff Ramsey was found and did not survive the flash flooding in Kerrville. His wife, Tanya, is still missing.

Governor Greg Abbott revealed that a special legislative session this month will include a review of flood warning systems. The session was initially planned to occur in June, but it got delayed due to the Texas floods. Stories like these are an eye-opening reminder that life is short and unpredictable. It is essential to take care of yourself and your loved ones.

Tell your parents you love them, call that friend whom you forgot to ring back, send flowers to your grandmother, pamper your kids and pets, and accept the fact that the tables can turn any moment in life. Be humble and thank God for the beautiful life we all get to live!
