Prince William is not planning to follow King Charles III’s footsteps once he takes the throne. A royal expert recently shared how the Prince of Wales is planning to defy the “streamlined monarchy” when he becomes king. Here’s how the Prince of Wales plans on changing the ways of the royal family.

The royal family is expected to attend an overwhelming number of official engagements every year. Every working royal is expected to do their part by attending their fair share of engagements. The Guardian previously reported how the royal family was expected to attend around 4000 engagements per year a decade ago.

When King Charles ascended the throne following his mother Queen Elizabeth II’s death, the number went down drastically. One of the factors affecting the decreased number of engagements the royal family made it to was the low number of working royals left.

Another factor was the decline of King Charles’ health because of his cancer diagnosis. The situation got worse after Kate Middleton was diagnosed with cancer soon after. Both the royals took time off from royal duties, away from the public eye, and while focusing on their recovery journey.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit from the royal family has naturally affected the number of working royals in Charles’ reign. Royal experts had predicted that Prince William would do the same when he ascended the throne. The 42-year-old was predicted to keep the number of working royals limited when he takes the throne in the future.

Richard Eden, who is the host of the Palace Confidential podcast, gave his take on the current situation of the royal family. “Prince William, like his father, has always favoured slim-down monarchy as the future, and what that looks like being now is just William and Catherine and their children,” he noted.

Eden went on to question if Kate and William’s nuclear family could “justify” all the wealth and palaces that the royal family owns. He shared that William is starting to see what his cousins can bring to the table, as reported by Tyla. The royal expert claims that with Harry gone, the Prince of Wales plans on relying on Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

The podcast host also noted that both the Princesses will likely be paid to do the job if appointed. Eden revealed how the Prince’s cousins are already contributing by doing “more and more” in the form of “private duties.” The private work is likely charity work, according to the expert. “I think Prince William and his father are noticing this and appreciating it,” Eden notes in the podcast episode.

Rebecca English, who is a royal journalist, has also spoken about the possibility of Zara Tindall supporting William during his reign. Tindall, who is Princess Anne’s daughter and not a working royal, has made several public appearances on behalf of the royal family, according to OK!
