It is been nearly three decades since Princess Diana’s death, but her legacy hasn’t faded away. The common people as well as the Royals, are obsessed with the fact that what she could have done concerning the present circumstances between her sons Prince William and Prince Harry. Especially this thing is more applicable for Gen Z, who see her as a cultural icon.
The royal watchers have been wondering what her possible reaction could be to the ongoing feud between her sons.
Author Edward White, in his book titled Dianaworld, has spoken on how strong her values were, and at present those are those are now interpreted through a variety of perspectives; those lenses include her sons too.
Princess Diana while Prince William tells the world the tabloids didn’t bully you at the direction of the royal family, that you were paranoid, Prince Harry will never let them blame you for their actions, he will never side with the media or cozy up to Camilla. He has stated that, “Doubtless, she’d have been horrified” by seeing disaffection between the two Princes. “Her sons are arguing about what their mother’s true legacy is. Diana said that she was trying to raise a future king that would ensure the monarchy survived into the 21st century – and William is trying to do a Diana reboot of the monarchy, combining the best of his mother and his grandmother.”
Though several people are also of the view that it is Prince Harry who carries Diana’s true spirit. “There’s something about Diana that encourages people to read whatever they want to read into her. The way people can look at Diana as embodying totally differing sides of an argument even applies to her sons,” Edward adds.

The author also believes that she would have brought the brothers together without any doubt. Even Meghan Markle, the wife of Prince Harry, often compared unfavorably to Diana, might have been embraced by her.
He said, “Meghan has this preternatural force to advance herself; she’s got strategies and plans. With Diana, it was all improvised and haphazard. But I think if Diana felt that Meghan made her son happy, she’d have been well disposed towards her. And Meghan and the two children seem to have brought Harry much more happiness than being a member of the royal family did.”

As per White, it is the emotional openness that makes people resonate so much with Diana. “The internet is drenched in Diana,” he says. “She would cry in public… this was astonishing at the time.” Her mental health awareness and openness about the subject, in that particular era, are certainly ahead of their time. He notes, “She’s a trailblazer and the godmother of a younger generation who talk about their interior lives a lot.”
Not only that, her legacy is also highly talked about on social media. “She liked experimenting with the way she looked… There are loads of Instagram accounts because there are so many paparazzi photographs of Diana.”
However, glamour was one thing, and having contradictions is another, which was certainly present in her, too. “She’s got this incredible mixture of being bashful and being unbelievably bold to the point of sheer recklessness,” Edward says. An example in this regard can be brought concerning her infamous Panorama interview. “I think she came to regret that because it caused upset and aggravation, and genuine hurt to people around her. Supposedly, Prince William in particular was very upset by it.”
Diana’s desire for personal independence grew over time. “By the end of her life… she was no longer a Spencer or a Windsor or a princess, really, she was Diana.”
