Is the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) capable of causing a blunder? Well, a female airline passenger was left in tears after TSA workers berated her for accidentally checking in the wrong luggage. Jos (@nnnnylso), with 1.8 million followers on TikTok,  posted on her page Saturday evening about a surprising incident at Austin International Airport.

Reportedly, the young adult said that upon arriving at the airport for her flight, she proceeded to the security check-in and unknowingly checked in the wrong suitcase. Unaware of the mix-up, she proceeded to the security checkpoint with the incorrect bag. When the TSA officials found out about the error, Jos said that they were harsh and made her situation even worse.

As per sources, the TikToker said, “I don’t know if I’m being dramatic.” Jos captioned her video, which has since garnered over 386,000 likes and countless comments from concerned viewers. She claimed that the TSA officials were quite ‘mean’ to her, and it left her incredibly upset.

Many voiced sympathy for her ordeal and criticized the TSA’s handling of the situation. One commenter wrote, “Mistakes happen. There’s no need to berate someone over an honest error.” In addition, several other users have claimed that they have faced similar rude treatment from TSA authorities in airports across the United States.

People also highlighted that while travel rules have become stricter in recent times to ensure the smooth functioning of the system and safety after Jos shared her story, people said that there should be a balance between security measures and compassionate customer service.

Meanwhile, for travelers, this incident is a cautionary tale about the importance of double-checking luggage before check-in. Even in the case of a busy airport where there are a lot of passengers, TSA officials should handle customer complaints with empathy and patience.

In Jos’s post, other TikTokers suggested that perhaps incorporating modules that focus on emotional intelligence and conflict resolution would better prepare agents to handle diverse passenger interactions.

Consequently, TSA has introduced a couple of new changes as of May 2025. Now, most airports across America are getting new kiosks with facial recognition software. There are also some automated baggage scanners now that allow you to get your bag checked without unpacking and suffering public embarrassment.

In addition, new restrictions on what to carry in checked bags have been passed. Power banks and other electronic devices with lithium batteries are now banned from being carried in your baggage. Instead, they should be loaded in your carry-on. Lastly, there are also new screening procedures for electronics, liquids, and footwear.

If anyone plans to carry a firearm with them, it should be inside the checked baggage, properly packed,  and declared to the airline at check-in. Failure to follow these rules includes a hefty civil penalty of up to $15,000 and the elimination of TSA PreCheck for five years.

While these TSA rules mark a new era for the travel sector in America under the Trump administration, the entire process should be carried out with a humanistic approach as well.
