The peak travel summer season combined with Memorial Day weekend is a unique challenge that TSA is preparing for. Alongside the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), they’ll be dealing with high passenger volume and increased inflow-outflow of flights.
The expected number of passengers will be more than 18 million from May 22-28.
Travelers may enroll in TSA Pre-Check for a smoother process so that they can reach their flights on time. The daily prediction of 54,000 flights across the US is keeping the air traffic controllers busy. TSA has asked travelers to carry their REAL ID or other alternative documents to ensure the flight is boring.
They are looking forward to minimizing any delays despite the limited infrastructure, outdated equipment, and fewer staff. We saw how Newark Airport suffered delays due to equipment malfunction. The authorities are trying to avoid that until the new systems are in place.

Any delays anticipated may be due to weather conditions that may cause hassle during peak travel season. The TSA Administrator has stated that they are ready for additional passenger volume and look forward to welcoming families. Plus, he reminded people to carry acceptable forms of ID for a smooth experience. Even with a high volume of passengers, there is no need to worry or have chaos at the airport.
Since REAL ID has been mandatory since May 7, passengers have to carry it or bring a REAL ID-verified driver’s license or a passport, even for domestic flights. The only exception is individuals below 18. According to the TSA, about 93% of travelers have presented the right IDs. Those who fail to do so are able to pass after the additional screening process. So they do not miss the flights. However, it is still recommended that they bring the right IDs.
Travel is on the rise this #MemorialDayWeekend. Yesterday, we screened over 3m individuals which is the 3rd busiest day of all-time. As a reminder, arrive at your airport early, have your REAL ID ready, and don’t forget to #PackSmart. pic.twitter.com/6IpZRtELd2

TSA also asks the passengers to pack smartly to avoid any prolonged checking of luggage. They must comply with the guidelines for check-in and carry-on luggage. The passengers should be aware of what they can bring and what may get confiscated if it goes against the rules. Moreover, the luggage should be kept organized so that the officials can scan it quickly.
After the travelers are at the security checkpoint, they should have their IDs handy. Even these small steps can prevent delays when millions of people are traveling. Also, add tags or personalize your luggage so you can identify it easily. If travelers need additional guidance, they may text AskTSA to 275-872 or check out the website for more information.
Since passengers are paranoid about so many changes in guidelines and REAL ID requirements, they are also worried about safety and ongoing delays. Both TSA and FFA are addressing these issues and ensuring travelers have smooth boarding. For instance, Florida airspace is now equipped with ultra-high altitude sectors to provide more coverage for aircraft. There will be fewer air traffic delays with this new tech.
For the Newark airport, there are capacity constraints until there are no tech upgrades to boost the system.
