Newly publicized court papers in Buenos Aires reveal details about how Liam Payne, from One Direction, passed away. There are two men (Braian Nahuel Paiz, a waiter, and Ezequiel David Pereyra, a hotel employee) who are now waiting for their day in court because they’re connected to the drugs that were involved in Liam’s fall from a balcony.

CCTV footage, witness statements from hotel staff, and text messages found on Payne’s phone paint a disturbing picture of multiple drug transactions in the 48 hours before the 31-year-old plunged to his death on October 16, 2024, from the third floor of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel.

The late star’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, had earlier said Liam was in a “good headspace” before she left Argentina.

But what transpired in the final hours (alleged deals, text exchanges, and late-night rendezvous) tells a darker story.

Pereyra and Paiz face up to 15 years in prison if convicted of selling cocaine to the British singer. Prosecutors say Payne requested “seven grams more” just hours before he died. Prosecutors also cited witness testimony from five hotel employees and detailed footage capturing handoffs of what appeared to be narcotics directly outside Payne’s room.

According to lead prosecutor Andrés Madrea, both men had repeated contact with Payne in the days leading up to his death. CCTV shows Pereyra meeting the singer around 3:25 a.m. on October 15 outside the hotel, reportedly handing him drugs in a wrapper.

One hotel technician, who shared a lift with Payne the day of his death, overheard the singer requesting “another seven grams” from Pereyra, a statement now formally entered into evidence.

One of the most damaging witness statements came from the hotel’s head of maintenance, who testified that Pereyra once explained a guest had tipped him to “bring drugs.”

Surveillance footage later captured the accused man delivering substances to the third floor shortly before Payne’s fall. Prosecutors assert this footage, alongside phone data and testimony, forms a compelling body of evidence.

Reconstructed Hours Before Liam Payne’s Fall to Death

Texts recovered from Payne’s phone reveal a pattern of drug requests and coordination. Prosecutors cited a WhatsApp conversation from October 14 in which Payne requested “five or five grams” of cocaine from Paiz, who replied an hour later with, “I think I got to three,” followed by a photo of a bag containing a white substance.

Paiz was captured on hotel security footage, arriving at 3:24 a.m. and staying in Payne’s room until 8:15 a.m. Later that day, Payne allegedly visited Paiz’s flat to collect more drugs. A third exchange suggested a final handoff was planned, ending with the ominous text: “I have $100. Party.”

Paiz, currently detained, denies selling drugs and claims he merely “shared” cocaine with the late artist.

“I don’t know what I’m doing here,” he said in a jailhouse interview. “I’m a good person.”

Meanwhile, three individuals previously charged with manslaughter (including a hotel receptionist and the head of security) have been cleared of wrongdoing. No trial date has yet been announced for Pereyra and Paiz, but Argentine officials insist proceedings will begin soon.
