Jeff Bezos and Mackenzie Scott stayed married for twenty-five years. Although the two separated amicably, this was one of the most expensive divorces, in which Mackenzie received $38 billion and Amazon stock.
She ended up in the list of richest women in the world. The duo announced their marriage dissolution in 2019. As per the Washington property laws, Mackenzie was entitled to half of Bezos’s marital assets.
The couple announced they would remain friends, but there is more to the relationship drama here. There was already a rumor that Bezos was having an affair with Lauren Sanchez. There were suggestive text messages along with inappropriate selfies that surfaced online.
However, Bezos denied it and tried to frame the National Enquirer for defaming and extortion. We all know that the couple has been together for years and is about to get married now. The two did not want the affair to get public before the divorce finalization, but we know how media scrutiny is. Bezos’ so-called amicable divorce led him to losing half his empire.
One major reason for such a heavy settlement was the absence of prenuptial agreement, and as a result, the state laws were applicable. Moreover, adultery from Bezos did not make the divorce financially easy for him. So, not getting a prenup years ago didn’t make things easier for him. But when the two got married his net worth was not in billions.

The two worked hard to get Amazon where it is now. Most of Bezos’ fortune was built after his marriage. So when the two divorced, Mackenzie handed over her shares in Blue Origin and The Washington Post along with 75% stake to Bezos. Besides, she handed over her voting rights. In return, she got billions and a 4% Amazon stake. So, the whole agreement was a calculative decision for her, seeing her own business plans ahead.
This situation must have promoted Bezos to get a prenup before marrying Sanchez. Now, the whole terms of the prenup aren’t revealed, and people are only speculating. But the prenup will protect his billions of fortune, unlike the last time. For instance, Lauren will get one million dollars for each year they stay married, claims several media reports.

The two are about to get hitched in Venice at the end of June. All the big celebrities and politicians are invited. In Jeff and Mackenzie’s case, the two are still friends and co-parent. They have both been kind towards each other, and there has been zero public drama since their divorce. Mackenzie is focusing on her philanthropy work and children while remaining single.
