The Trump administration and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have been carrying out a series of ruthless and fast-paced deportations under Donald Trump’s mass deportation policy, which aims to deport illegal immigrants in America.

Among several cases of merciless deportations, Paola Clouatre, a Mexican national and wife of U.S. Marine Corps veteran Adrian Clouatre, was taken into ICE custody after a routine green card appointment in New Orleans.

The couple, who met in late 2022, had tattooed each other’s names and were expecting their second child when ICE revealed a deportation order issued in 2018 based on her mother’s failure to attend an immigration hearing. Paola, brought to the U.S. more than ten years ago by her mother seeking asylum, did not know this order until it emerged during her May 27, 2025, appointment.

As per The Mirror, ICE authorities asked the couple to wait in the lobby and then arrested Paola. At the time, she was still breastfeeding their 3-month-old daughter, leaving her husband to resort to formula and tap water. Paola also gave her wedding ring to her husband, Adrian, before she went with the authorities.

Adrian Clouatre’s eyes were moist with emotion, and he claimed that his wife, a dedicated military spouse, was treated poorly. Their attorney, former immigration judge Carey Holliday, criticized the situation, questioning ICE’s lack of discretion in handling military families.

Meanwhile, even the people involved in the deportation laws condemned the ruthless techniques of the ICE authorities.

“It’s just a hell of a way to treat a veteran,” said Carey Holliday, a former immigration judge now representing the couple. “You take their wives and send them back to Mexico?” Consequently, Paola Clouatre’s family has filed a motion to reopen her case before an immigration judge in California, despite ICE’s assertion that the loving wife has been living in America illegally.

According to the outlet, Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said in an emailed statement that Paola Clouatre “is in the country illegally” and that the administration is “not going to ignore the rule of law.” As the family desperately awaits Paola Clouatre’s return, her husband, Adrian, is single-handedly taking care of their 2-year-old son Noah and daughter, Lyn, whom she was breastfeeding.

When Noah asks about his mother before bed, Adrian says, “Mama will be back soon.” Similarly, when his 3-year-old Lyn gets hungry, he gives her a bottle of baby formula instead. There have been multiple reports about abrupt ICE deportations under the Trump administration, but there’s not much one can do. Thousands of people remain in custody as they await hearings, as the government pushes for immigration officers to arrest 3,000 people a day.

These arrests highlight broader tensions. Under President Biden’s administration, ICE has increased its arrest targets, and its stricter enforcement policies have impacted even families with military ties. Sources note that, while recruiters promote military service as a path to legal status, current federal policies now subject military family members to deportation proceedings.

Reports also suggest that under Donald Trump’s mass deportation goals, ‘enforced disappearances’ of immigrants have become increasingly common. This speculation began when  Venezuelan asylum-seeker Frizgeralth de Jesús Cornejo Pulgar failed to attend a routine immigration hearing in America on May 30, 2025.

An enforced disappearance happens when a person is secretly abducted or detained by state agents, and the state then refuses to acknowledge their whereabouts. These immigrants are often sent to dangerous foreign places and denied basic rights.

Alas, despite protests in big states like Los Angeles and the capital, Washington, D.C., there’s no improvement at all. At this point in American politics, we’ll just say maybe it’s truly a Trump world, and we are living in it without a choice.
