On marriage anniversaries, it’s mostly usual for the couples to go out, spend a romantic time together and hit the restaurant to soothe taste buds with favorite food. But if you’re Usha Vance, you’re spending your wedding anniversary at a parade in Washington, D.C.

June 14 should’ve been all about candlelight, champagne, and a sitter for the kids, because it was VP JD Vance and Usha Vance’s special day. But instead of pulling out the romance card, JD pulled rank. And rather than dinner reservations, he gave his wife… a front-row seat to Donald Trump’s birthday parade.

 Romantic, right?

While most spouses would probably be clinking glasses or posting sweet throwbacks, Usha found herself flanked by tanks, marching bands,  and a sea of camo, all while her husband turned the national stage into the weirdest couples therapy session of the year.

From the speaker’s podium, JD gave a brief shout-out to the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday, promising that the administration would “always prioritize them, send them into action only when necessary, and arm them to the teeth when doing so.”

Then came the double-whammy: “I would get into trouble if I didn’t mention that it’s also my wedding anniversary,” Vance said. “And so, to my lovely wife, I love ya, honey. Happy anniversary, and thank you for everything you do for our country.”

That sound you heard was every woman in America cringing in unison.

Let’s unpack: Not only did he wish Donald Trump a happy birthday before mentioning his own wedding anniversary, he also skipped Usha’s actual name and thanked her like she was a fellow cabinet member, not the woman who’s put up with him for over a decade. “Thank you for everything you do for our country”? Sir. You’re not awarding her a Purple Heart.

On the bright side, he did remember the date this time. Just last month, JD reportedly forgot to acknowledge Usha on Mother’s Day, bold move for a guy with three kids and a nationally visible platform. So, mentioning the anniversary (even as a footnote after Trump’s birthday) is… progress?

But wait, it gets worse.

Just a few weeks ago, JD took to X (formerly Twitter) to recount a moment from their outing to the Kennedy Center. According to him, Usha burst into “hysterical laughter” when he asked if Les Misérables was the one “about a barber who kills people,” confusing it with Sweeney Todd. Now, whether that happened or not, we have serious doubts about the laughter part. Usha is a Stanford-educated lawyer. Pretty sure she knows the difference between revolutionary France and Victorian cannibalism.

At this point, someone might want to gift JD a 101 course in “How to Stop Embarrassing Your Wife on National Television.”

Sure, some onlookers may find his public shout-out endearing. But calling your wife “honey” and tossing in a state department thank-you isn’t exactly melting hearts. Maybe next year, skip the tanks and take her to dinner, JD, and please, let her do the talking.
