A UK man was scammed out of hundreds of pounds by a fake Jennifer Aniston. The man who lost his money fell victim to a deepfake AI scam that is on the rise. The man willingly shared his story, hoping it would serve as a warning for other people susceptible to the scam.

Paul Davis, who is 43 years old, was convinced he was talking to actress Jennifer Aniston until things went south. The Southampton was approached on Facebook by a scammer pretending to be the actress.

“I’ve had fake videos from Jennifer Aniston saying she loves me and asking for £200. I believed it – and I paid,” Davis shared. The £200 he lost went towards non-refundable Apple gift cards. The fake Jennifer Aniston even told the UK man that she “loved him.”

The scammer also shared a picture of the actress’s fraudulent ID to convince Davis. “I got bitten. Once bitten, twice shy,” he admitted.

He also shared that this isn’t the first time he has been targeted by an AI-powered scam. He was connected by scammers pretending to be Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg. The 43-year-old has previously received messages claiming he was the winner of a Range Rover and another saying he had won a mega prize.

“This is not a scam – believe me,” a fake Zuckerberg told him in a video. The meta creator who was featured in the deepfake clip also showed Davis an ID to prove his identity. Paul has been a target for these scammers for months now, and he has been approached several times.

One of the scammers informed him that he had won a “certificate from Facebook” that earned him £500k and a luxury car. “They make it look so real,” Davis warned. He went on to reveal how he had been getting these messages for the past 5 months.

“I thought someone would get in trouble for this, but they seem to be having a laugh – and getting away with it,” he added. Davis also shared how somebody he knows also fell for the unfortunate trap just as he did.

Paul’s acquaintance lost over a grand in Apple gift cards, according to him. Davis spoke about how constantly being targeted by these scams is impacting his mental health. “I can’t keep taking that sort of hit. They’re asking for bank details, credit card info – everything,” Davis shared.

Numerous people like Paul have fallen for the deepfake celebrity frauds that are on the rise. A French woman got conned out of £700,000 by a scammer posing to be Brad Pitt.

The French interior designer named Anne was convinced she was paying for the actor’s cancer treatment. Over a year later, the scammer was found and exposed to be a Nigerian man who had also scammed 34 other victims.
