An incident that took place at the Memphis Walmart and was caught on camera is going viral on social media. The incident unfolded between a White woman who was accusing a black teenage boy of theft. The whole altercation that was caught on camera is leaving people raising their eyebrows.
Penny Thompson, the mother of the teenager, uploaded a video of the whole interaction on TikTok. In the video, Thompson is seen arguing with the woman in the presence of two Walmart employees.
The woman accused the teenager of stealing her wallet and “looking guilty.” This claim prompts the mother of the boy to ask the Walmart workers to check the camera footage to prove that he is innocent.
Penny also claims that the woman is targeting her son while playing the “race card.” The woman denies the claim strongly by noting that it had nothing to do with the mother and son’s race. “I don’t care what color you are, he looked guilty!” the white woman says in the video, as per Atlanta Black Star.
“Guilty of what?!” Thompson asks the woman as a response. This is when the woman who is standing by a truck tells the man in it that she is waiting for the mother of the teenager to hit her.
Penny then advises the woman who is alleging her son of theft to go home. The mother then proceeds to ask the Walmart employee for assistance while asking them to intervene in the incident taking place.
The Walmart employee advises the mother and her teenage son to put their stuff away. When Thompson asks why she and her son are being harassed, the employee replies with, “Uh, that, I have no idea.”
The White woman continues to accuse the teenager of stealing while his mother loads their cars with the things they bought. “You can act like it’s because you’re Black, but it’s not. He knows he’s guilty,” the woman is heard alleging at some point.
The teenager, who is 15 years old, accuses the woman of “rage-baiting” at this point. He is heard calling the woman and her companion “racist” at some point. “I am f***ing 15, and I’ve to deal with this dumb s**t,” he says as the woman continues to accuse him. Thompson criticised the Walmart employees for handling the situation poorly.
“We were just shopping and harassed. We got a 55 in TV, nobody even helped us until that Karen started showing out, then we had an entire audience in the parking lot,” she wrote. She went on to write how it is a “criminal offense” to make false reports and how the employees “could have help a lot more.”
