Questions about US President Donald Trump’s health have kept the Internet busy for a long time now, and with latest news reports claiming that Google is blocking AI searches for Trump having dementia, the technology giant is under scrutiny.

A report published by The Verge, backed by multiple screenshots, claimed that Google seemed to have blocked AI search results for the query “Does Trump show signs of dementia?” Other questions of his mental health were also apparently blocked. However, the same queries for former US Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden navigated the users to long lists of related news articles.

When questions about Donald Trump’s health were asked, AI Overviews displayed the text, “An AI Overview is not available for this search.”

Reacting to the ongoing controversy, Google spokesperson Davis Thompson responded to The Verge, explaining with a document that AI-generated overviews do not always show up for sensitive or complex queries. “As we’ve said, AI Overviews and AI Mode won’t show a response to every query,” Davis Thompson said.

Meanwhile, the Internet appears to have taken the claims rather seriously and is not pleased. On X, many users have shared posts related to the snowballing controversy. “Google is blocking searches about Trump having Dementia. When you type it in the search bar. It says AI is not available for this sight. The same is true if you type in Alzheimer’s. AI never shows up,” a user on X wrote.

Another user on X added, “Google is blocking AI searches for Trump and dementia. Though you can still Google them for other Presidents. All this does is confirm the GOP is hiding something.”

More furious rants flooded the popular social media platform. “We are really living in Orwell’s 1984,” commented a user, drawing a comparison to the dystopian world often reflected in the works of George Orwell.

It would be an understatement to say that similar thoughts echoed. “Wonder why? Because he has dementia perhaps? #trumprambling,” pointed out a user. A section of the Internet also complained about being directed to links pertaining to the health of other U.S. presidents when questions about Donald Trump’s health were looked up. “By typing in Trump and dementia. Lots of results for Biden,” wrote another one.

Another user showed concern over Trump’s cognitive health and wrote, “There is quite a bit of concern considering some of his unhinged actions recently.”

Donald Trump claims to be one of “the healthiest President that’s ever lived”. On several occasions, he decided to bring up President Joe Biden’s health issues. During Biden’s presidency, Trump claimed that the Democratic leader had deliberately hidden his health condition.

Donald Trump, 79, is rather discreet about his health limitations, with a few exceptions being the time he admitted that he has trouble walking down the stairs. “I’m very careful when I walk down stairs, like I’m on stairs, I walk very slowly. Nobody has to set a record. Just try not to fall because it doesn’t work out well,” Trump said recently after a video of him struggling to walk down a staircase went viral.

Earlier this week, Dr Braunstein’s daughters – Elysa Braunstein and Sharon Kessel, in an interview with New York Times, claimed that their late father diagnosed Donald Trump with bone spurs as a “favour” to avoid the Vietnam War draft. Dr Larry Braunstein had reportedly diagnosed Trump with bone spurs as a favor to his father and business tycoon Fred Trump, who also happened to be the doctor’s then-landlord in Queens.

The US President also suffers from a circulatory condition called chronic venous insufficiency. Sharing an update on Trump’s health condition this year, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt described it as “common condition, particularly in individuals over the age of 70.”
