President Donald Trump is once again lighting up Truth Social with his all-caps fury, and this time, he’s taking it straight to the underworld. In a new rant that had even some Republicans cringing, Trump declared Democrats to be “the party of hate, evil, and Satan” as the government shutdown entered its second day. The president’s outburst arrived packaged with a flurry of AI-generated videos and memes so surreal that even his diehard supporters might need a double shot of espresso to keep up!

One clip features Trump rocking a cowbell to Blue Öyster Cult’s Don’t Fear the Reaper while his budget director, Russ Vought, plays a Grim Reaper making his way through Washington. Vice President JD Vance appears to be pounding the drums. Subtlety is dead, it seems. Anyway, when Donald Trump reposted one of his old memes, calling Democrats “the party of hate, evil, and Satan,” the rant reached its height. The meme featured Chuck Schumer, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Nancy Pelosi, and Joe Biden, all of whom he blames for the shutdown.

The caption screamed:

“The Democratic Party is Dead! (…) They have no leadership! no message! no hope! their only message for America is to hate Trump!”

However, this was not an isolated incident. Over the course of the week, Donald Trump’s online discourse has been more bizarre and, at times, racist. A few days ago, he shared a manipulated video of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries wearing a mustache and sombrero while listening to mariachi music. The video was deemed unacceptable by Democrats for being reckless and racist.

While most Republicans grumbled, Speaker Mike Johnson muttered that it was “not my style” in a Capitol hallway. Donald Trump’s theatrics are tied to the government shutdown that began on Wednesday. With federal agencies furloughing staff and projects grinding to a halt, the administration has weaponized funding cuts against Democratic strongholds.

Budget Director Vought said on Friday that $2.1 billion for infrastructure projects in Chicago would be put on hold under the ruse of protesting “race-based contracting.” The freeze risks a modernization push for the Red and Purple lines and a significant Red Line extension on the city’s South Side that could improve access in poverty areas. Chicago isn’t the first target. The administration had withheld $18 billion in funding for New York infrastructure, including a vital new rail tunnel beneath the Hudson River. The clear political undertone was to force Democratic cities to put pressure on their leaders.

Chuck Schumer (the Senate’s minority leader) labeled the ruling “stupid and counterproductive,” given that these projects boost employment and economic growth. Donald Trump’s divisive rhetoric and flurry of memes are an aggressive yet distracting strategy. By branding Democrats not just as opponents but as literal agents of evil, he’s giving MAGA world fresh ammunition and drawing headlines away from the actual consequences of the shutdown.

Yet the impacts are real for average Americans. Critical projects in cities like Chicago and New York are suspended, federal employees are on leave, and infrastructure plans are on hold. Whether Trump’s “party of Satan” jab sticks in the political bloodstream is anyone’s guess. But the chaos is deliberate, and the showmanship is as unsubtle as ever. As Washington gridlocks and AI memes flood timelines, the nation wonders when politics looks like a parody, how much of the punchline is intentional?
