After his “hotel nights” with his ex-girlfriend “Jane,” who testified against him in his federal sex trafficking prosecution under a false identity, Sean “Diddy” Combs had a favorite show. During her testimony on Tuesday, “Jane” claimed that Combs enjoyed watching Dateline following his alleged “freak-offs.”
The show has extravagant sex performances with male escorts that Combs is accused of forcing “Jane” and his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura to participate in.
Ironically, the most recent episode of the real crime TV show, “Sean Combs on Trial,” aired on May 11 and now features Combs as the subject. After the sexual encounters, Combs would watch his “favorite” show, “Jane” testified, while she tucked him in. She would then bathe him, stroke his feet, and snuggle with him until he fell asleep while watching the crime series.
Despite the difficult sexual encounters she detailed with escorts she claims Combs regularly asked to join them during their covert meetings, “Jane” told the court that those moments made her feel “loved” by Combs. According to The New York Post, she testified, “That was really the only reason why I endured these nights, so that at the end I could just have the love and affection with my partner.”
“Dateline” representatives were contacted by USA TODAY for comment. Jane also testified that she still loves Combs now when asked by Combs’ attorney Teny Geragos. Combs, 55, was arrested in September and accused of transporting people to engage in prostitution, sex trafficking, and racketeering. He entered a not guilty plea.

“Dateline” is hosted by Lester Holt, who was previously the host of “NBC Nightly News,” and includes correspondents Dennis Murphy, Andrea Canning, Josh Mankiewicz, Blayne Alexander, and Keith Morrison. Meredith Vieira, Craig Melvin, and Kate Snow are all featured on the show. Peacock also streams the well-liked program.
Morris talked on the injustices and crimes committed by men against women in a 2021 USA TODAY interview, which is a mainstay of “Dateline” programming. “Dateline” staple Morrison thinks that more women watch the show in order to “know the lay of the land when it comes to interpersonal crime.”
Diddy’s behavior was beyond just being freaky. Diddy was emotionally manipulative and was an expert on how to do it by the time he got with “Jane.” #diddy #diddytrial pic.twitter.com/GjjzdYhBau

“That lays open what I think ‘Dateline’ has exposed over the years, which is one of the worst epidemics we have: the epidemic of spousal abuse, of women being harmed by men. And I hate to say it, but that’s really the basis of so much of the crime that occurs,” Morrison said.
Additionally, Holt told USA TODAY that the storylines on the show are “relatable” because “you realize that people that do bad things could be across the street from you, their kids could go to school with yours.”
“A lot of the people in these stories were good people, up until the moment they weren’t, or they were living normal lives like ours and then one day they became a victim of something really horrible,” Holt said.
