Amid growing anticipation over what Trump’s latest shutdown will bring, a recent bizarre incident caught the eyes of many when a black car carrying a message for the U.S. President rammed near the front steps of L.A.’s City Hall late Friday afternoon. The impact was so much that it startled and sparked a standoff between officers and the suspect behind the wheel. An LAPD spokesperson to the Mirror U.S shared further details of the case.
According to reports from the Los Angeles Police Department, the collision took place a few moments after 4 PM on Spring Street. Interestingly, the driver then locked himself inside the car, and only after two hours of negotiations with police did he peacefully surrender and step out. The man was immediately taken into custody without incident. While the identity of the person has not been revealed by the authorities yet, the man was taken for medical treatment soon after that.
The news about this unusual incident going viral all over social media, local media coverage showed a zoomed picture of the black car involved in the collision. One could clearly see a signboard hanging from the dashboard of the vehicle, which had the message “I need ur help, D Trump, U.S. Vet” written on it. There was one more placard hanging as well, which mentioned “Don’t Want To Hurt Nobody.” There were no other occupants inside the car apart from the driver.
With the suddenness of the incident rolling out, the entire building was evacuated on priority, for the safety of everyone. However, the man had no malicious intent in the fiasco he created. A post on X by Mayor Karen Bass shared more details as the evacuation was still underway. The post read as “I’ve been briefed on the ongoing incident outside of City Hall, which is currently being evacuated out of an abundance of caution. I want to thank all first responders who are at the scene — my office will continue to monitor the situation.”
At the time of the crash, there was nobody near the vehicle, and so the chances of injuries or accidents have been ruled out. In fact, the suspect did not have any weapons or other suspicious devices on him either, and was perfectly unarmed when he was taken into custody. However, the reason for him to take up such a step is still unknown, and the investigation is still in progress.
But it also must be noted that the messages on the vehicle requesting help from U.S. President Donald Trump also highlight that the man is a veteran. Considering the ongoing situation of the shutdown in action, there is a possibility of an unresolved grievance at the core of his actions. For those unversed, veterans who subscribed to the VA emails recently received a somewhat politicized version of what the shutdown holds for the veterans, as explained by Trump.
