Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s wedding is being objected to before it’s even had the chance to begin. The couple’s wedding ceremony, which is set to take place in Venice, is facing resistance from the locals there.
Here’s how Bezos and Sanchez plan to put the locals’ minds at ease by causing “minimal negative impact.”
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and American journalist Lauren Sanchez are set to get married in Venice in the upcoming week. The couple’s decision to choose the city of canals has been deemed quite controversial by netizens and locals alike.
According to several reports, “No Space for Bezos” protests were being carried out by locals to oppose the wedding. Authorities have also reportedly expressed the possibility of locals obstructing the canals and streets in the city on the day of the wedding.
Lanza & Baucina Limited, the company contracted for the event planning for the wedding, released a statement in response to the worries of the locals. “Before the recent news of protests arose, we had worked for there to be minimal negative impact or disruption to the lives of Venetians and the city’s visitors,” the statement read, according to PageSix.

The statement further details how the couple has taken the “wider debate and critical issues” troubling the city into consideration. The company revealed that Bezos and Sanchez have decided to support the city and its “all-important lagoon through non-profit organisations and associated projects.”
An insider has also revealed how the couple has made a significant donation to charities from Venice in April 2025. Reportedly, 80% of the vendors for the wedding are also based in Venice. The statement also addressed the claims about the Bezos-Sanchez wedding “taking over” the city.
Rumors previously dictated that the couple had pre-booked all of Venice’s fleet of gondolas and water taxis. A city official debunked the rumor, claiming that it was “completely unfounded.” The city’s Mayor Luigi Brugnaro has also previously urged locals to see the positive impact the multi-million dollar wedding will have on the city’s economy.

The couple seems to have a “contingency plan” irrespective of whether the precautions taken to put the protestors’ minds at ease will work or not. An insider told PageSix how the couple has “deliberately kept multiple options open.” The source shares that the couple has booked multiple venues on multiple dates as part of their plan.
The reason behind this unconventional move when it comes to wedding planning? “The strategy serves both to mislead paparazzi and protesters,” the source adds. The insider goes on to explain how the contingency plan is set in place to avoid any “last-minute logistical setbacks.”
A slew of netizens have also rushed to debate the negative effects the wedding might have on the locals and the city itself. “This seems like a fragile city to choose. The slightest damage will be big news, and any inconvenience to residents will be really unappreciated,” one user wrote on X.

Another noted how “disruptive and costly” things could turn if things took a turn. “Bezos simply had to make a statement. He demanded a grand wedding in Venice. WHY? Good point. He is a show-off. Period. So is Sanchez. Neither of them knows how to be discreet. All that money. So little common sense/class,” another alleged.
The wedding is reportedly taking place on June 24, 25, and 26, with 200 guests partaking in the celebrations. Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ivanka Trump, Eva Longoria, Katy Perry, and Orlando Bloom are some celebrities rumoured to be invited to the nuptials.
