Jeff Bezos‘ billionaire status isn’t working in his favor. The people of Venice have taken it upon themselves to show him how he does not own the place. Bezos is headed to marry Lauren Sanchez in a romantic Venice ceremony that’ll take place from June 24 to June 26. He has invited 250 people to the wedding, including several celebrities and politicians.
All the luxury hotels are booked for his guests as they’ll start pouring in to attend the fancy wedding taking place on a $500 million megayacht. The people of Venice aren’t too happy due to over-tourism and how worn out the place is. They believe that so many guests will add to that and leave their city in a much worse state.
Even the politicians have asked Bezos to make a considerable donation to restore the city. Many people have come out for protests, causing tension and disrupting the canals. According to the sources, the wedding date may have been changed from June 26 to June 28, considering the outrage of the locals, as reported by Vanity Fair Italy. The no space for the Bezos campaign against the billionaire is also a part of the citywide protest. Many protestors are also claiming that they won’t let Bezos pass the canals.
The locals have planned to line the roads with their bodies, block canals and even topple the wedding cake. They are saying Bezos is not at all welcome in the city. Many people are saying that they aren’t against the wedding but they don’t like the fact that the billionaire is acting like he owns the place.

Both the Mayor and region president have condemned the protestors and are backing up the event. Meanwhile, Bezos has planned an extravagant wedding and unfortunately will have to move the dates.
There is a peaceful demonstration scheduled for June 28, the same day as the final festivities of the couple’s wedding. The Venice locals may try their best to get people talking and create a nuisance for the guests, but they will be chilling in their multimillion-dollar yacht and fancy hotels.

This isn’t the first time there have been protests against Bezos. When the news about using the mega yacht Koru surfaced, it was believed that the Dutch bridge might be dismantled to let it pass. The locals got furious upon hearing the news. There were about 4,000 people who signed up on Facebook to egg the yacht to show their rage. However, it did not come to this as Koru was transported without dismantling any historic structure.
The couple has spent about $12 million on the wedding, and having to reschedule everything seems like a hassle, to say the least. It’s a big day for the two, as they have been dating for a few years now and got engaged in 2023.
