Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown has created havoc in the country. There have been multiple instances of people being detained during their immigration hearings, and family members getting separated during raids by ICE. A wife of marine veteran was separated from her infants, and a girl child with rare brain tumor was deported along with her family. These are few of the many heartbreaking cases of families suffering during Trump’s second term.
As Trump directed ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to initiate “efforts to detain and deport Illegal Aliens” in Democratic-run cities, former president Barack Obama finally broke his silence on the ongoing clash between the administration and protestors.
Obama advocated for a respectful approach to immigration reform. In his tweet, he highlighted the significance of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy.
Barack wrote, “Thirteen years ago, my administration acted to protect young people who were American in every single way but one: on paper. DACA was an example of how we can be a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws. And it’s an example worth remembering today, when families with similar backgrounds who just want to live, work, and support their communities, are being demonized and treated as enemies.”
“We can fix our broken immigration system while still recognizing our common humanity and treating each other with dignity and respect. In fact, it’s the only way we ever will,” the former President further added.

DACA is an immigration policy that was established by the Obama administration in 2012. The policy allows certain undocumented immigrants who came to America before the age of 16 and haven’t been convicted of certain crimes to temporarily avoid deportation and secure work permits.
This policy, however, isn’t a permanent measure as the beneficiaries are required to renew their status every two years.
Obama’s politically balanced tweet has, however, drawn criticism from MAGA supporters and certain migrants. An X user tagged AI chatbot Grok and wrote, “how many people did Obama deport? how does it compare to Trump second term?”
The AI chatbot replied, “Obama’s administration deported about 5.3 million people from 2009 to 2017, including 3.1 million formal removals. In contrast, Trump’s second term, from January to June 2025, has seen an estimated 140,000–150,000 deportations.”
Calling out Obama’s ‘hypocrisy’, someone wrote, “You are the most disgusting president in American history! You are the most racist president towards Latinos, we don’t eat your lies anymore. You deported more of our people than anybody else in history! Shut up hypocrite.”

“You have deported more immigrants during your administration than any other. Stop trying to make yourself look like a nice guy and that you care. You don’t!” – wrote an angry X user.

However, someone pointed out that it’s not about which president has deported more people but the way the Trump administration has been doing it. People are agitated with the alleged ‘ruthless’ ways by which ICE has been detaining illegal immigrants. Their treatment at the El Salvador mega prison has also raised concern.
People have pointed out that the immigrants don’t deserve to be “treated like animals” as they get detained and deported. Many people have also urged the administration to make exemptions in certain cases, especially when individuals have no criminal history and are currently in process of obtaining green cards, or have been undergoing medical treatments.
Donald Trump, however, isn’t bothered about what the opposition or his haters say. He is also least affected by the protests and has vowed to continue his immigration crackdown. In his Truth Social post, he wrote, “Our Federal Government will continue to be focused on the REMIGRATION of Aliens to the places from where they came, and preventing the admission of ANYONE who undermines the domestic tranquility of the United States.”
He added, “These Radical Left Democrats are sick of mind, hate our Country, and actually want to destroy our Inner Cities — And they are doing a good job of it! There is something wrong with them. That is why they believe in Open Borders, Transgender for Everybody, and Men playing in Women’s Sports.”
“To ICE, FBI, DEA, ATF, the Patriots at Pentagon and the State Department, you have my unwavering support. Now go, GET THE JOB DONE!” Trump wrote in conclusion.
