Donald Trump‘s immigration policies, which seemed like a great way to remove illegal immigrants from America in the beginning, have turned ruthless and chaotic at this point. While deporting immigrants wasn’t the problem, the way it’s being done looks horrifying. While certain cities like Los Angeles have even carried out protests against sudden raids and caused vandalism, many leaders have warned that Donald Trump’s style of governance is taking the route of an authoritarian government, with immigrants allegedly vanishing during court hearings.

Why do we say so? Well, take this case for example. An 11-year-old girl was deported in February 2025 during the second week of Donald Trump’s second term after her family was detained while rushing to a Texas hospital on February 3, 2025.  She was an American citizen with a rare brain tumor. Her attorneys have filed for humanitarian parole with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, asking the government to allow the family temporary re-entry so the child can resume treatment.

As per The Daily Beast, the girl had last received treatment in the U.S. in December 2024, and after the family got deported, they are begging the Trump administration to allow her and her undocumented parents to return to the country so she can acquire critical medical treatment. “We’re fighting for my girl’s life,” the mother told NBC News. “This isn’t the cold or the flu. It’s something that takes time and specialized care.”

The family attorney, Danny Woodward, who works with Texas Civil Rights, said that the child’s family is currently struggling to get proper medication for her in Mexico. “They’ve had trouble getting the right medications,” Woodward said. “It’s a very precise formula, and pharmacies can’t replicate it there.” Moreover, he added that the area where they were living in Mexico wasn’t a safe place. The parents now work in agriculture.

“Just weeks after they arrived, the parents were seeing bodies by the roadside—apparent victims of cartel violence,” Woodward told The Daily Beast. The 11-year-old and her family lived in Texas for over a decade, with no criminal record beyond immigration violations.  Meanwhile, the family has asked to remain anonymous amidst the struggle to request Donald Trump and his government for parole.

Reportedly, their daughter had woken up with a headache and dizziness on February 3, after which the family rushed to the hospital. In the past, the family had made this same trip several times, always carrying a hospital letter explaining their circumstances.

But this time, they were halted and detained under tightened Trump-era protocols. Despite showing U.S. birth certificates and a medical note, they were held overnight in a detention facility and deported the next day. Alas, the little girl never reached the hospital for a checkup, and what’s worse was that her mother had only three minutes to speak to Danny Woodward, their attorney.

The situation is critical, as the parents are struggling at the moment to find the exact anti-seizure medication she needs. In addition, medical expenses are also getting difficult to maintain amidst such a major life change.

In these difficult times, Attorney Woodward condemned Donald Trump supporters and said. “We’ve heard from people saying, ‘We wanted stronger enforcement, but not like this—not deporting a deathly ill American child,’” he said. The family is now hoping for a miracle amidst the little girl’s deteriorating health, wishing for the same outcome as a similar California case in May, when the Trump administration granted a four-year-old girl with a severe illness humanitarian parole.

It’s sad to witness Trump promising to deport illegal immigrants and now deporting sick children who might not have a long time to live. Where has humanity disappeared?
