Lauren Sanchez’s Blue Origin space trip is being heavily scrutinized by the public. The journalist who was on board the flight with several other women is getting called out for partaking in something so wasteful. While the Amazon CEO’s fiancée receives backlash while being compared to his ex.
Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin space mission was surrounded by one controversy after another. The crew for the flight comprised a horde of women, including singer Katy Perry, CBS host Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, film producer Kerianne Flynn, scientist Amanda Nguyen, and Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sanchez.
The New Shepard rocket took the group of women to space for 11 minutes. Following the very brief space flight, the people on board were criticised heavily for being a part of a project that was so wasteful and out of touch with what is going on in the world currently.
Actress Olivia Munn voiced an opinion similar to the general public’s soon after the group’s space journey. Munn called the trip “gluttonous” during her appearance on Today with Jenna and Friends.
Olivia Wilde also took to Instagram to share a meme that showed Katy Perry kissing the ground after landing back on Earth. “Billion dollars bought some good memes, I guess,” Wilde wrote alongside the photo.
Following the trip, Sanchez stood by the rocket with her fellow crewmates as she addressed the press. In the speech, she noted how important the trip was for the thousands of employees who worked tirelessly on the project.
Later in the month, Sanchez took to Instagram to flaunt a luxury bag in a display of pure wealth. The American journalist shared a photo of a Judith Leiber bag that was gifted to her by the Kardashians. The bag that was UFO-shaped is worth nearly $7,000.
As Lauren keeps partaking in extravagant shows of wealth, it’s difficult to miss how contrasting her behaviour is to Bezos’ ex Mackenzie Scott. Scott, whose net wealth went up by $38.3 billion after her divorce from the Amazon CEO, has taken a different approach to spending her money. She reportedly received a 4% stake in Amazon.
Soon after the divorce, she became a member of The Giving Pledge. The NGO that Warren Buffett and Bill Gates started promotes people with a substantial net worth to donate most of their money to those in need.

“In addition to whatever assets life has nurtured in me, I have a disproportionate amount of money to share,” Scott shared on the official website. She went on to note how she plans on donating money until the “safe is empty.”
The Center for Effective Philanthropy published an article that detailed how Scott had donated $19 billion in three years. According to the report, the donations to the 2,000 nonprofit organizations had an “overwhelmingly positive” effect. The public perception of Lauren Sanchez and Mackenzie Scott is poles apart, given how the two are spending the money they have access to.
