RFK Jr opines that people should not trust doctors

RFK Jr, the Health and Human Services Secretary of America, had previously made it clear that he is not a reliable source when it comes to medical advice or information. He said this to the Congress last week and while his comments had generated widespread criticism, RFK Jr shows no signs of moving away from what he said.

Additionally, in a new interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, RFK Jr took a step further and mentioned his skepticism regarding the medical professionals of the country. He said, “People should not be taking medical advice. I’m somebody who is not a physician, but they should also be skeptical about any medical advice.”

He further added, “They need to do their own research, you know. You’re a mom. If you’re a mom, you do your own research on your baby carriage, on your baby bottles, on your baby formula.” His comments naturally surprised Kaitlan Collins, the host, who reminded her that the common population does not have medical degrees.

She also said, “Obviously, if you’re a mom and you’re looking at what science has been tested, they trust their doctors and their pediatricians.” However, RFK Jr had a reply ready for this, as he said, “You know, one of the responsibilities of living in a democracy where physicians and every sort of expert are subject to all kinds of biases. One of the responsibilities of living in a democracy is to do your own research and to make up your own mind.”

To make sure that what RFK Jr was saying, Kaitlan said, “So that’s your message to moms, or to anyone, is to do your own research?” To this question, RFK Jr readily replied, saying, “I would say be skeptical of authority. My father told me that when I was a young kid. People in authority lie.”

He further added, “”We’ve seen a lot of that in our country. People in the media lie, and people need to make their own judgments and be skeptical and maintain their capacity for critical thinking, and that was shut down during COVID, and the media was complicit in that.”

It should be noted here that RFK Jr  has always presented controversial opinions regarding vaccinations and his past statements show that he is not a fan of vaccines himself. When asked if he would vaccinate his kids against measles, RFK Jr had said, “For measles? Uh… Probably for measles… What I would say is that my opinions about vaccines are irrelevant. Everybody can make that decision”

His words clearly show his reluctant attitude towards vaccination and how he considers that medical professionals are not to be trusted completely. Such views, coming from the Health and Human Services Secretary of a nation, is indeed concerning and it now remains to be seen how the general public of America react to this.
