RFK Jr. had several concerning moments as the Health and Human Services Secretary given his views on vaccination and other medical issues. While he has made it clear several times that he is a strong anti-vaxxer, he also recently mentioned that fluoride makes people stupid.

Such comments from RFK Jr. have already established that he is probably not the best choice for the role he serves. However, on Wednesday, he made some more comments while testing before a House subcommittee, which essentially saw him admitting that he really does not know what he is doing.

When Wisconsin Democrat Rep. Mark Pocan asked RFK Jr. if he would consider vaccinating his young children against diseases like measles, chicken pox and polio, RFK Jr. replied that while he might consider the measles vaccine, he “didn’t want to give advice” to others regarding their choices.

It seemed from his response that he had probably forgotten the job of cabinet secretaries, which included offering advice and information related to their respective departments. What RFK Jr. said next baffled everyone even more as he said, “I don’t think people should be taking medical advice from me.”

Pocan was visibly surprised at RFK Jr.’s comments as he replied, “That is kind of your jurisdiction. Because [the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which HHS oversees] does give advice.”

This naturally generated wide ranging reactions on social media as one user posted on X, “That is kind of your jurisdiction. Because [the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which HHS oversees] does give advice” with the video that shows RFK Jr. making the comments.

Another user chimed in, saying, “RFK Jr says, “I don’t think people should be taking medical advice from me.” He should therefore not give advice but leave that job to agency scientists. He won’t say if he’d vaccinate against polio. That sends a loud message. And it’s not a good look from our health secretary.”

A third user posted, “JUST IN: 🚨RFK Jr won’t say if he’d vaccinate his own kids against measles—and then says, “I don’t think people should take medical advice from me.”

Too late. You built an entire movement off people doing exactly that. You don’t get to disown the consequences now.”

Another user showed similar sentiments, saying “Guy in charge of government health agencies doesn’t think he should be giving out medical advice.” Yet another one mentioned, “Secretary of Health & Human Services RFK Jr to Congress: “I don’t think people should be taking medical advice from me” Tap, tap. Pardon me. Ummmm sir?”

Another X user came very strongly with their opinion of RFK Jr. saying, “‘I don’t think people should be taking advice, medical advice, from me.’

—RFK Jr., HHS Secretary

RFK Jr. refuses to promote vaccines as a prevention for measles, chicken pox & polio.

He is a clinically insane sociopath who went to Samoa and murdered 80 people with his ‘advice.’”

With people reacting strongly to RFK Jr.’s comments, it shows how frustrated they are at his incompatibility. Moreover, his own confusion regarding  his position and responsibilities that come with it hints at the trouble Americans might be facing when it comes to seeking advice from the country’s health secretary.
