Habiba Soliman and her family were on a pursuit of academic excellence in America. But their journey turned into a nightmare they never saw coming. Habiba was a promising medical student and recent graduate. She moved to the United States from Kuwait two years ago with her family in search of better educational and personal opportunities.

However, all her dreams were shattered when her father was arrested and charged in connection with violent and religious-based attacks. Mohamed Soliman was arrested in relation to the June 1, 2025, attacks in Colorado.

While the whole Soliman family is undergoing the trauma of being dragged into the racial and religious mess, Habiba has lost her chance of a bright career. She was once celebrated for her ambition and drive and now is part of the police report written by her father.

She was once part of the “Best and Brightest” student recognition program featured by the Denver Gazette. In that feature, Habiba expressed immense gratitude for the new life her family had found in the US. She even stated that “America changed me” in a scholarship essay.

All her dreams now hang in the balance.

The Solimans came to the US from Kuwait to ensure a medical education and career for their daughter, who was bound by legal and social barriers in her home country. When they had to choose a place for their daughter’s future and educational opportunities, they chose the US as their new home.

Habiba had the brains and a zeal for hard work which quickly paid off and she quickly rose to local acclaim. She earned honors for both her scholarly excellence and her dedication to building a better future. Her path finally seemed clear and she could see herself in a white coat. Until the violent actions of her father changed everything.

On the afternoon of June 1 in Boulder, Colorado, Mohamed Soliman allegedly launched a firebomb attack on a peaceful march. This march was being held to honour Israeli hostages. The assault was carried out with Molotov cocktails. He also attempted a gasoline detonation.
This left 13 people injured, and there were several in critical condition.

Federal authorities arrested Soliman at the scene. He was charged with federal hate crimes and attempted murder. As a result of this, immigration officials detained Habiba, her mother, and her four siblings. Their visas have since been revoked, and the family now faces imminent deportation proceedings.

The consequences of Soliman’s action have not only affected him but his family and their future too. Habiba’s dream of becoming a doctor in the US is now gone. Their legal status is also in limbo. A father whose responsibility it is to ensure his kids future snatched it right out of their hands.

Soliman reportedly expressed no remorse after his arrest. He even described the attack as the beginning of a wider campaign. Investigators say this attack has been planned for over a year. Soliman intended to die during this attack as a martyrdom act.

Authorities have now formally classified this event as an antisemitic terrorist attack. This has prompted nationwide discussion on domestic extremism and immigration oversight.

In all this, Soliman’s family is left to collect the pieces of their once-happy family. Soliman’s personal aspiration came ahead of his familial responsibilities. And his wife and five kids are left to bear the consequence of his actions.
