The Catholic Church appointed Robert Prevost as Pope Leo XIV after Pope Francis passed away in late April at the age of 88. Regretfully, it seems that the new pope does not like JD Vance, and his anti-Vance views are being enjoyed by many.
People were able to unearth (not so) ancient tweets of Pope Leo XIV that did not present the vice president in a positive light almost soon after his announcement.
He reposted an item from the National Catholic Reporter on February 3 that said, “JD Vance is wrong: Jesus doesn’t ask us to rank our love for others.” People on X quickly appeared in the comments section to criticize Vance for anything other than his purported eyeliner. “Get his a** Holy Father,” tweeted one ebullient Twitter user.
The new pope made several retweets criticizing Vance’s policy. On February 13, he retweeted an article from America Magazine titled “What the Gospel asks of all of us on immigration, Pope Francis’ letter, and JD Vance’s ‘ordo amoris’.” Actually, on April 14, Pope Leo XIV sent out another retweet criticizing Vance and Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
As a result, many people enjoyed seeing the new pope, who unexpectedly gained a lot of popularity online, take a slap at the vice president. “Good news everyone, the new pope still hates JD Vance,” one commenter said. “They were perplexed by the red hat. Another said, “They believed he was already on their side.” Others said they believed Vance might pose a threat to Pope Leo XIV’s safety.
Wow—this one’s a mic drop from the new Pope.

The claim that JD Vance was responsible for Pope Francis’s death is among the most shocking ones. On Easter Sunday, April 20, Vance visited with the previous pope. In a stroke of bad luck, or karmic kismet, Pope Francis passed on the next day. Vance didn’t waste any time in mourning the pope’s death on X.
“My heart goes out to the millions of Christians all over the world who loved him,” he wrote on April 21 in a tweet. By making a comment, the author of “Hillbilly Elegy” also tried to avoid some of the criticism that the internet gleefully heaped on him for the death of the previous pope. “I was happy to see him yesterday, though he was obviously very ill,” he stated.
The new Pope (who is an American) has openly criticized Vice President JD Vance for the administration’s immigration policy.
Imagine being JD, an adult convert to Catholicism… people say you killed the first Pope, and the second one thinks you’re evil 😂 pic.twitter.com/QY8s8mLu54

Trolls, on the other hand, quickly appeared in the replies with some ominous comedy. One person tweeted, “Poor guy died of cringe after meeting you,” X users expressed their desire for Pope Leo XIV to escape the same fate as Francis’s when the new pope’s tweets regarding Vance became viral. One commenter said, “Please don’t let JD near him,”
Some speculated as to why the new Pope was so adamantly opposed to Vance. “He probably hates him even more now that he murdered his predecessor,” a jokester wrote on Twitter.
