There was a whopping $45 million military show, a not-so-alert birthday boy, and an awkward murmur caught on video. Melania Trump and her husband, US President Donald Trump, stole the spotlight at the US Army’s 250th anniversary on June 14th.
It was a day that marked two big events: the Army’s anniversary and Donald Trump’s 79th birthday, which also turned into quite the political scene. But amidst all the pomp and circumstance with tanks and high-tech robots, there was a bizarre little moment that everyone was talking about.
Nicola Hickling, a lip-reader who spoke with the Irish Star, figured out what was said between the couple during the parade.
As Melania, 55, was taking in the military display, she commented, “They’re good.” Then, Donald threw in something weird, supposedly saying, “I pushed my finger on one of them.” Melania looked confused and said, “You didn’t do that.” And Donald had to admit, “You’re right, I never pushed my finger on them.”
The whole thing left everyone online seriously bewildered and trying to make sense of it.
Melania Trump at Her Husband’s $45M Birthday Parade
The flashy military parade was supposed to be a huge flex. They had 6,600 soldiers, 150 vehicles, and even robot dogs. But honestly, it looked like a school play with an insufficient audience. People on social media posted pictures and clips of all these empty seats, but it just didn’t seem like the big deal it was supposed to be. Some were pretty ticked off about it, too, saying things like “an epic waste of OUR taxpayer dollars” and calling it “Trump’s ‘look at me’ parade.”
And to make it even more awkward, guess who took a little nap in the middle? That’s right, Donald Trump himself!

He dozed off during the festivities, and the cameras caught it. Melania Trump was sitting next to him, and she looked like she couldn’t decide if she was more amused or embarrassed. Twitter had a field day with it, with one person saying, “She doesn’t look mortified; she’s laughing at him,” and another joking, “Probably past his bedtime.”
Let’s talk about the song choice. The military band played this anti-war classic, “Fortunate Son,” which wasn’t the most subtle move considering Trump’s history with draft deferments. The whole thing felt ironic and was a facepalm moment for everyone watching. The critics didn’t miss it and quickly pointed out the hypocrisy.
Donald Trump vs. Protests, Parody, and Public Pushback
While President Trump was about the flashy tanks and dramatic shows, the real drama happened elsewhere. There were planned nationwide protests, aka the “No Kings” rallies, and they were massive. More than 5 million people gathered for over 2,100 events to voice their opposition to Trump’s way of doing things.
They were protesting his power plays and his tough stance on immigration. The signs people brought had clever jokes, like “You Sucked in Home Alone 2,” and serious messages that got right to the point, like “IF MELANIA DOESN’T HAVE TO LIVE WITH HIM… WHY DO WE?” It was quite the display of dissent across the country.
The demonstrations, with the ACLU at the forefront, completely overshadowed the parade.

Rex Huppke from USA Today laid it on thick, describing the whole affair as “phoned in and drab” and saying Trump looked like a kid who had his heart set on a Nintendo Switch 2 but got socks for his birthday instead.
Instead of letting the bad vibes from the weekend get to him, Trump went full throttle on Twitter, pushing for bigger and better deportation raids and throwing shade at cities run by Democrats. His post was a wild mix of random caps and racist fear-mongering, which screamed how much the weekend didn’t go his way.
