The Vice President JD Vance can’t stay away from controversies ever. Whether it’s a joke about his wife in front of the cameras or insensible comments on other matters, netizens never spare to slam him. This time he is in trouble again for making another insensible comment and people are not letting it slide.

He is facing this major backlash after making what many are calling an inappropriate and “disgusting” comment about Joe Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis.

The news of Biden’s serious health condition broke late last night (18 May), with his team releasing an emotional statement. The former president, 82, has been diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of prostate cancer that has already spread to his bones.

“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms,” the official statement read. “On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”

It continued further, “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management. The president and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”

President Donald Trump responded shortly after with a surprisingly empathetic message, writing on Truth Social. The post read, “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

But it was Vance’s reaction that quickly took a turn, and not in a way many found respectful.

Speaking to reporters from C-SPAN during his return flight from Pope Leo XIV’s Vatican inauguration, the 40-year-old vice president was asked about Biden’s health news.

“Yeah, look, I mean, first of all, of course, we wish the best for the former president’s health,” Vance began. “Erm, it sounds pretty serious, but hopefully he makes the right recovery.”

But the tone shifted fast. “I will say, whether the right time to have this conversation is now or at some point in the future, we really do need to be honest about whether the former president was capable of doing the job.”

Vance didn’t stop here. “You can separate the desire for him to have the right health outcome, with the recognition that – whether it was doctors, or whether there were staffers around the former president – I don’t think he was able to do a good job for the American people.”

He then added, “That’s not politics. That’s not because I disagreed with him on policy. That’s because I don’t think he was in good enough health. In some ways, I blame him less than the people around him.”

Vance also questioned the level of transparency about Biden’s condition. “Why didn’t the American people have a better sense of his health picture? Why didn’t the American people have more accurate information about what he was actually dealing with? This is serious stuff. This is a guy who carries out the nuclear football for the world’s largest nuclear arsenal. This is not child’s play.”

He closed with, “We can pray for good health but also recognize that, if you’re not in good enough health to do the job, you shouldn’t be doing the job.”

His remarks sparked immediate outrage online. “Unbelievably disgusting stuff here from JD Vance pouncing on the opportunity to turn Biden’s cancer diagnosis into a political attack,” one X user fumed. “I hope all of you pay one way or another for your nasty words!” another wrote.

A third posted, “I feel bad for Joe Biden’ would have been enough.” Others didn’t hold back either. “This man is a bigger ass than Trump and that’s hard to achieve!” and “This is pretty disgusting, even for him,” read two more comments.

Another person wrote, “Thats why they should also be honest about Trumps clear decline in mental state. Biden was a mush brain, Trump is just about there.” Even another user didn’t miss taking a jab at the current administration. They remarked, “We need to be honest if the current POTUS is capable in doing HIS job. It’s been about revenge and praise so far and then posting about Beyonce, Bono and Springsteen and Kamala late at night with more urgent matters needing attention? Seriously…”

What was meant to be a moment of national unity over a serious diagnosis has, once again, spiraled into political chaos, one quote at a time.
