Netflix users are applauding a new “intense” documentary series about Osama bin Laden and telling fans of crime that it is their “patriotic duty” to discover “how much precision” was required to finish the mammoth manhunt.
Osama bin Laden, a Saudi-born t—rrorist and militant who established and led al-Qaeda as its first general emir, was shot dead by SEAL Team Six in Pakistan on May 2, 2011. The individual is said to have spent six years hiding at his compound in Abbottabad, which is referred to locally as the Waziristan Haveli. He was able to avoid detection for about nine years following the September 11th attacks in 2001 in New York.
American Manhunt: Osama bin Laden, a recent Netflix documentary, details how the CIA and other military personnel in the United States set out to track down and ultimately kill Osama bin Laden.
Directed by Mor Loushy and Daniel Sivan, the three-episode series debuted on Netflix on May 14, 2025.”Our goal was to transport the viewers into these places, in real time, and ask them: ‘What would you do?'” the directors of American Manhunt: Osama bin Laden told Netflix’s Tudum. “For us, experiencing history firsthand is the best way to comprehend it.”
The television show, which is billed as “telling the story of people tasked to find the world’s most wanted terrorist and bring him to justice,” includes interviews with key Special Forces and intelligence personnel involved in the international hunt for bin Laden.
These include former FBI, CIA, and Department of Defense personnel; White House officials including Ben Rhodes; and journalists John Miller and Nayyera Haq. Viewers have flocked to social media to voice their opinions after learning about Operation Neptune, in which a team of 25 Navy Seals attacked bin Laden’s complex and ultimately killed the t—rrorist by shooting him in the head.
