Love is no longer safe in this world, and there is an increasing anti-social sentiment within the family. There have been quite a few headlines recently on people turning against their loved ones and not just leaving them but killing them, too. Husbands killing wives, mothers attacking their children, and familiar walls turning into crime scenes.
Digging deep into the subject, the disappearance of Suzanne Morphew was once a heartbreaking mystery, is currently a terrifying reflection of how fierce society can become.
Suzanne Morphew, who reportedly vanished on Mother’s Day 2020, eventually got her husband, Barry Morphew, arrested for her disappearance. Now, he was arrested again for her murder. A Colorado grand jury reportedly returned an indictment Wednesday, which got Barry Morphew engaged in the arrest in Arizona on Friday. His bond is set at $3 million cash-only.
Suzanne’s remains were discovered in September 2023, reportedly near the Moffat area of Colorado, and all these came during an unrelated search. Reports also say that – Her skeletal remains were bleached from sun exposure, and during an autopsy in 2024 , it stated her death was a homicide by unspecified means. As per research through the Toxicology process, BAM traces has been disclosed as well as a strong animal tranquilizer used on wildlife—in her bones.
“Ultimately, the prescription records show that when Suzanne Morphew disappeared, only one private citizen living in that entire area of the state had access to BAM: Barry Morphew,” the indictment said. A tranquilizer gun, along with some accessories, was also found in the Morphew home, as per Associated Press.
Anne Kelly, the District Attorney, said – “We have worked very hard to move forward in this case,” and reflected on the fact that they never stopped seeking justice.
Barry, on the other hand, has consistently stuck to his innocence. David Beller, his attorney, stated – Yet again, the government allows their predetermined conclusion to lead their search for evidence. Barry maintains his innocence. The case has not changed, and the outcome will not either.”
Earlier he was first charged in 2021. However, the case was dismissed the following year because the prosecutors withheld evidence repeatedly, which included DNA from an unknown male found in Suzanne’s SUV. However, the judge dismissed the case at that time but did keep the door open for future charges.
It’s been a bit. A lot has happened over the last year and three months, and I’ve been watching from a distance. But I can’t not send this one out: Barry Morphew was re-arrested this afternoon in Gilbert AZ, for the murder of #SuzanneMorphew and she will finally get Justice. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/Z0sFHEPXTa

As mentioned, Suzanne disappeared 5 years back in 2020 from her home near Salida. Reports say that she had her mountain bike along with her helmet before leaving home, and later on, they were in separate spots, and investigators viewed it as a scenario. A week after her disappearance, Barry posted a video online, saying, “No questions asked, however much they want, I will do whatever it takes to get you back.”
Latter on, investigators of this case, stated that she was planning to leave her husband and he was’t able to mention that h drove towards the area from where her helmet was recovered and then latter on he did so to follow an elk.
The coroner ruled Suzanne’s cause of death as “homicide by unspecified means” due to the presence of butorphanol, azaperone, and medetomidine—all BAM components—in her system. Authorities say the sedatives suggest the drugs were administered before death.
