The marriage of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump has been among the favorite topics of the public, and this has especially been evident since his second presidential term.

The couple seemingly stays united, as per several of their public appearances, but several comments over the years suggest that there’s a strong strong rigidness in their relationships, and is also operated through several outdated gender roles.

Back in 2004, from an interview on the infamous The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the first lady simply made it clear that her husband isn’t much fond of handling the household chores. She was asked if Trump ever went out to take out the trash, to which she replied, “No, he’s doing his job,” adding that such tasks fall to their housekeeper.

The POTUS chimed in to praise her neatness, “If I leave the bed for a minute, I come back, the bed is made.” Melania confirmed, “I like stuff perfect … I’m very organized.” Her words, reflecting on Trump’s expectations from women, that too in the bedroom.

Next, during an interview in 2005 on Larry King Live, Trump further reinforced the speculation about him on outdated traditions when he said, “I’m not going to be making the food. I may never even see the kids.” He further stated that, “She’ll be an unbelievable mother. I’ll be a good father.”

On the contrary, the First Lady didn’t disagree with Donald’s comments, rather she said, “To marry a man like Donald … you need to be very strong and smart,” and “He needs to know he can rely on me.” These traits in a person are often referred to as “weaponized incompetence” by the experts, which means men avoid domestic responsibilities and women are eventually forced to take on more.

Melania Trump, herself, has admitted that she stays out of her husband’s way. “It’s a lot of responsibility for a woman to be married to a man like my husband,” she said in Parenting Magazine (via Bustle).

She even said on ABC news that, “To be with a man as my husband … you need to have a very independent life.” Though Melania talks about independence but Donald Trump himself said to sources that he hardly sees his wife as well as son during the campaigns, “I just don’t have the time … to spend with my children and my wife.” To support that, the First Lady said, “My husband is traveling… Barron needs somebody as a parent, so I am with him all the time.”

Though the FLOTUS, in the memoir Melania, released this year only, has also brought light on how she and Donald Trump sometimes disagree. She said to Fox News, “I don’t always agree with [what] my husband [is] saying or doing, and that’s okay.”

However, the President commented on Larry King earlier, which explains the dynamics, “I don’t want to have to go home and …work at a relationship. A relationship you have to work at, in my opinion, doesn’t work.”
