Not only celebrities but also folks in business and politics seem to fall out as well. Perhaps what people predicted has finally come true. In the wee hours of the morning, Elon Musk posted an emotional message that looked like a jibe at his pal and President Donald Trump. Soon, tabloid headlines flocked with the news that the Tesla founder had resigned from his position in the Trump administration.
“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” he wrote in his post.
Donald Trump and his team created a new department on January 25, 2025,” the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), to modernize federal technology and cut down on federal costs. As the leader of the initiative, Elon Musk cut down on the workforce and laid off several employees. Estimates suggest that around 260,000 employees were fired.
As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending.
The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.

As per BBC, despite Donald Trump’s full support, several people remain confused about Musk’s role in the scenario, and haters are unhappy that he has been given so much limelight and power in such a short time. The duo showcased the world as if they were the best of allies, despite Musk criticizing Donald Trump’s policies before.
The pair even appeared for a joint interview on Fox News with journalist Sean Hannity. The pair talked about inflation news and Elon Musk’s Starlink, and Trump also repeatedly tried to establish a relationship with the father of thirteen. In return, Musk also spoke highly about the 78-year-old and believed he was a good man.
Alas, people were shocked when Musk announced his step down from Donald Trump’s administration. The White House said that his role was always meant to be temporary. The Tesla CEO’s exit comes just a day after he openly criticized the centerpiece of Donald Trump’s legislative agenda — a sweeping budget bill.

In an interview with CBS, Musk expressed disappointment with the proposal, which includes multi-trillion-dollar tax breaks and significant increases in defence spending. “The big, beautiful bill,” as Trump calls it, would, according to Musk, worsen the federal deficit and undermine the goals of DOGE.
I think a bill can be big or it could be beautiful,” Musk said. “But I don’t know if it could be both.” Meanwhile, as per Tyla, Trump and Musk’s friendship wasn’t as smooth as it appeared on screens. The White House began the offboarding process for Musk on Wednesday night, sources told the BBC.
In his step-down announcement, Elon Musk also mentioned that “The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government, which means that even though he stepped down as its advisor, it’s still on. On the other hand, Elon Musk has a lot on his plate to deal with.
In the coming days, legacy media will try to convince you that President Trump and Elon Musk are no longer friends and that’s why Musk left.

He had indicated as early as April that he planned to step back from his role in the government, citing increasing criticism of the Doge initiative. “Doge has become the scapegoat for everything,” he told The Washington Post from Texas, ahead of a SpaceX launch. “Any time something went wrong, even if we weren’t involved, we’d get blamed.”
In addition, as soon as federal jobs under DOGE were cut down, several legal cases were filed against the initiative by federal judges. Meanwhile, public protests against Musk’s political involvement have intensified. Demonstrators have targeted Tesla vehicles and charging stations with acts of vandalism and urged people to boycott Tesla.
Despite suffering huge losses, Musk remains committed to his love for the brand, and while speaking at the economic forum in Doha, Qatar, on May 27, 2025, he affirmed that he intends to lead the company for at least the next five years.
