It is no news that Donald Trump has always been keen on celebrating his birthday in a grand way, with getting the military involved. He has been wanting this since his first term, and during that time, the chance of doing so was not materialized owing to cost and safety issues.
However, in his second term, it seems that President Trump is finally going to get his way. In a report published by Reuters on Wednesday, it is mentioned that, “Twin celebrations of U.S. President Donald Trump’s birthday and the Army’s 250th anniversary will include as many as 25 tanks rolling through Washington in a celebration that will cost $25 million to $45 million.”
The report further mentioned, “The U.S. Army had long been planning to move troops and equipment to the National Mall in Washington on June 14 as part of its anniversary celebration. Plans now include a parade since that coincides with Trump’s 79th birthday.”
While keeping their names hidden, two U.S. officials also told Reuters that the celebrations, if go as planned, will cost around $45 million. An official further added, “The Army is planning on sending about two dozen M1 Abrams tanks for the celebration” as reported by Reuters.

It should also be noted that the cost presented by the anonymous officials do not include the expense that Washington city might have to bear, like cleaning up the roads after the celebration or taking care of any kind of damage on the roads because of the heavy tanks that will be used for the celebration.
It was previously reported by Reuters that Trump’s birthday celebration plans included “more than 6,500 troops, about 150 vehicles and 50 aircraft moving to Washington.” Given the kind of money that this show of power will cost, critics have naturally called out Trump’s decision, more so because he has been targeting various important federal departments and their employees in the name of cost cutting.

With the help of the Elon Musk led DOGE, the Trump administration has wreaked havoc over various federal departments over the last few months and their reason has always been the same – saving tax payers’ money. However, given how the President is fine with wasting tax payers’ money for his own birthday celebrations, questions of his real motive behind slashing those federal departments are bound to arise.
It now remains to be seen if Trump indeed goes forward with his mega birthday plan and if he does so what the actual cost ultimately comes to.
