Donald Trump is a man of his word. If he’s said something to the media, chances are he quite literally means it. The man, who is a hardcore believer in a radical and no-nonsense style of leadership, recently warned Iran in a chilling statement on June 17, 2025, that if Iran were to assassinate him, the country would face destruction.

“If they did that, they would be obliterated,” Trump told reporters while signing a new executive order to increase US pressure on Tehran. “I’ve left instructions—if they do it, they get obliterated. There won’t be anything left.”

As per reports, the comments come amid long-standing concerns over Iranian threats against Donald Trump and other top US officials, particularly following Trump’s 2020 order to kill Qassem Soleimani, commander of Iran’s elite Quds Force. Though Trump claims he has set plans in motion, it’s important to note that, in the event of his assassination, Vice President JD Vance would assume the presidency and would not be obligated to follow any instructions left by Trump.

Earlier, Donald Trump had faced two attempted assassinations on July 13 and September 15, 2024, where the Republican candidate was shot in the ear in Butler, Pennsylvania, and West Palm Beach, respectively. However, Iranian involvement in that specific attempt was ruled out since the suspects were reportedly Thomas Matthew and Crooks Ryan Routh. Authorities remain on high alert.

The already strained relations between America and Iran due to their history of tensions became worse as Donald Trump threatened to bomb the regime, saying, “If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing. “ It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before.” Naturally, these threatening comments were not well received by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as he said, “The enmity from the US and Israel has always been there.”

He added, “They threaten to attack us, which we don’t think is very probable, but if they commit any mischief, they will surely receive a strong reciprocal blow. And suppose they are thinking of causing sedition inside the country, as in past years. In that case, the Iranian people themselves will deal with them.”

As a result of the conflict, Kayhan, a newspaper that representatives of Khamenei manage, issued a column where there was a call for the 79-year-old’s assassination. As per Fox News, the column reads, “He’s way out of line! Any day now, in revenge for the blood of Martyr Soleimani, a few bullets are going to be fired into that empty skull of his, and he’ll be drinking from the chalice of a cursed death.”

“He makes threats and then backs down! The result? The situation in America gets worse by the day. It was announced yesterday that his actions have caused $3 trillion in damage to the US economy.”

In November, the US Department of Justice revealed that it had thwarted a plot by Iran to assassinate Trump ahead of the 2024 election. The plan allegedly involved Farhad Shakeri, a 51-year-old Afghan national living in Iran who was believed to be a government asset.

According to federal court documents, Shakeri was directed by a contact in Iran’s Revolutionary Guard to shift his focus entirely to surveilling and planning Trump’s assassination. Reportedly, Shakeri, who is a big shot in Iran, was convicted by America and was in prison for robbery. He also maintained a mastermind network of criminal contacts that Tehran used for surveillance and murder-for-hire operations.

While the Iranian government, including Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, instead called the claims against the Islamic nation  a “Zionist fabrication.”

Meanwhile, as we know, Iran and Israel are at war after a massive Iranian missile and drone assault on Israel, and Tehran warned that any US military involvement would trigger “all-out war.” Meanwhile, leading Iranian officials have issued stern warnings, with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei menacing “irreparable damage” if the US enters the war.

While we cannot predict the extremely fragile political situation in the three nations, one thing is quite clear: Iran dislikes Trump. Perhaps it’s the result of America killing Iran’s beloved IRGC’s Qassim Soleimani in 2020 via an airstrike, or simply Iran’s collective hatred towards the West; we will never know. But Trump is mighty, and he certainly doesn’t let age define his capability. he and his administration will be prepared for any hazards in the future.
