China has just unveiled its latest DF-58 missile. It’s a huge upgrade from the DF-5 model that was a part of the Cold War era. The new weapon is reportedly 200 times more powerful than the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It comes with a long range of 7,500 miles.
This will let China reach the US and Europe from within the country. The latest missile is proof of global domination in nuclear weapons. This poses an imminent threat to other countries as it is of significant power.
The new weapon has an advanced technology which can carry out multiple independent warheads–MIRV. So, it can be used to deploy numerous nuclear warheads. The earlier version could only do one at a time. This can also be said to be China’s retaliation towards the US’ secret atomic plan.
The new model has ten times the capacity of the last model, hence increasing its strike ability. China’s upgraded nuclear weapon can deliver 3-4 million tons of TNT. Moreover, it has an accuracy of 0.3 miles, making the weapon precise for attack.

Since the warheads operate independently, they are hard to intercept using missile defense systems. Previously, the details of the nuclear weapons were kept under wraps. However, now China has revealed all about its nuclear power. We may not know the exact cause of it, but one thing is clear: China wants to make a statement that showcases its power.
The message is clear: it can determine whether or not to be protected against military threats. This announcement came after the ICBM launch on the Pacific Ocean in September last year. This was a planned and successful test as a part of a routine arrangement per the country’s annual training program with a dummy warhead. The test warhead ended up in the intended area in the ocean.

The People’s Liberation Army carried out this operation to ensure military preparedness. Their rocket force handles nuclear missiles and is constantly working towards more modern upgrades. As other countries are improving their nuclear weapons, China is also trying to build better surveillance and missile defenses to stay in power. China ranks third among the countries that have the most nuclear weapons, after Russia and the US.
The rise of nuclear power competition is making countries invest in nuclear warheads. This poses a considerable challenge to changes in military dynamics. Each nuclear-armed country is adding to its defense strategies by developing technology. This new update from China may prompt other nations to build new weapons or change their military strategy concerning nuclear weapons.
