The Trump administration has made up its mind to send troops to Portland to bring crime under control and to”restore order” to the city. Karoline Leavitt recently revealed the government’s plan of action during a press conference on Friday. The announcement was met with harsh criticism from people online.

The Press Secretary revealed how Trump planned on cutting the federal funding of the state of Portland, among other things. “We will not fund states that allow anarchy,” Leavitt declared.

The 28-year-old shared that President Trump had ordered Pete Hegseth to deploy “necessary troops” to the city. The decision comes after the 79-year-old took to Truth Social last week to how it was the only way to protect “War-ravaged Portland.”

The Oregon mayor, Keith Wilson, and the Oregon Governor, Tina Kotek, both accused Trump of abusing his Presidential power. At the same time, Portland and Oregon both threatened to sue him. Leavitt, in contrast, labelled the officials’ actions to be “despeciable” during the briefing.

She alleged that the elected officials of the state were failing to “protect their people are preventing law enforcement from doing their jobs on the ground.” Leavitt claimed that the President had set his mind to ending the “radical left reign of terror” that had taken over Portland.

Social media users were quick to retaliate against the Trump administration’s decision. Hundreds of comments flooded X with people questioning the government’s impending deployment of troops.

“These people are utterly deranged and dangerous. They hate the United States,” Meidas Touch wrote on their official X account. “I miss when words meant things,” a second commented.

“Trump should be using every excuse possible in the book to defund leftist cities like this,” a third alleged. “While it’s crucial to maintain law and order, it’s equally important to respect individual rights,” another wrote in disagreement with the administration’s decision to cut Portland’s funding.

The same user noted how it’s not the “best solution” because it would end up affecting “innocent citizens” as well. Several others made the same argument while urging the Trump administration to come up with a more sensible way to deal with the situation rather than withholding funding from an entire state.

The administration’s decision to deploy troops in the state comes in response to the citizens protesting against ICE’s actions. The government, on the other hand, remains shut with no end to the shutdown in sight.
