California Governor Gavin Newsom doubled down on his criticism of President Donald Trump on social media.

On October 2, Newsom’s press office savagely mocked Donald Trump on X using an AI-generated image of himself dressed as the French monarch Marie Antoinette. He even called the president a “beautiful queen.”

“TRUMP “MARIE ANTOINETTE” SAYS, “NO HEALTH CARE FOR YOU PEASANTS, BUT A BALLROOM FOR THE QUEEN!” Newsom’s office captioned the post.

Another post from October 3 showed the same image, but this time, the caption read, “PEASANTS, SHUT UP ABOUT YOUR HEALTH CARE! OUR QUEEN’S BALLROOM WILL BE ALMOST AS BEAUTIFUL AS HER!”

In a separate post, Newsom’s press office shared a screenshot of an article about Donald Trump and captioned it with an acronym “clown,” which stands for “Crooked Lunatic Obsessed With Nonsense”.
Gavin Newsom’s press office hit out at President Donald Trump’s decision to continue the construction of his $200 million ballroom amid the government shutdown.

The federal government entered its third day of a shutdown on Friday, with no resolution in sight. And while federal programs grind to a halt, the construction of President Donald Trump’s ballroom at the White House continues.

“There will not be a stoppage of ballroom work when the shutdown occurs,” a White House official told ABC News.
The 90, 000 square feet addition to the East Wing is estimated to cost around $20 million. According to the White House, the ballroom’s construction is being financed by private donors.

“Work will continue to be performed as the funds currently supporting are not tied to a FY26 enacted appropriation,” the official added.

In an interview with NBC News, President Donald Trump teased that the new ballroom will be extravagant.

“We’re making it a little bigger,” the president hinted. “It will be top of the line, as good as it can get anywhere in the world.”

In July, the White House said in a statement that the ballroom would seat up to 650 people.
The government shutdown is now on its third day, with no resolution in sight. As both sides continue digging in, it is expected that the shutdown will continue at least next week.

No votes will be held in the Senate until Monday, while the House has canceled all votes for next week and does not plan to return to Washington until October 14.

“They have taken hostage the federal government and, by extension, the American people, who are the only losers in this,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said at a news conference with House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., in the Capitol on Friday.

“What’s in the best interest of the American people is keeping the government open and operating, so it can continue to work on their behalf,” he added.

If the government remains shut down on Monday, it will mark the 10th longest shutdown in U.S. history, according to an analysis by NBC News. The longest government shutdown occurred in 2018 and lasted for a total of 34 days.
