Charlie Kirk‘s assassination has left Republicans in deep shock and grief. The staunch ally of President Donald Trump was shot to death during an event at Utah Valley University. Kirk was speaking to a large outdoor crowd about mass shootings and transgender people when a loud gunshot rang out.
Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account and posted a four-minute video expressing his grief and anger while promising to track down the perpetrators. However, Trump’s message wasn’t all about Kirk, and the tragic incident; he ensured to slam the “radical left.” On top of it, he couldn’t stop mentioning his own assassination attempt, thus gaining a portion of sympathy for himself while the nation is mourning Kirk’s death.
Once again, a bullet has silenced the most eloquent truth teller of an era. My dear friend Charlie Kirk was our country’s relentless and courageous crusader for free speech. We pray for Erika and the children. Charlie is already in paradise with the angels. We ask his prayers for… pic.twitter.com/ReOdkT6VbV

Trump pointed out how MAGA leaders, including himself, are often labeled as Nazis. Just a day before Kirk’s assassination, when Trump went out to dine in Washington DC with Vice President JD Vance and other key Trump allies, he came across protestors shouting, “Trump is the Hitler of our time.”
Ironically, Vance himself labeled Trump ‘America’s Hitler’ in 2016, much before he had a major awakening and decided to join the presidential campaign of the very person whom he once called “an idiot.”
Trump said in his video, “For years, those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans, like Charlie, to Nazis and the world’s worst mass murderers and criminals. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we’re seeing in our country today, and it must stop right now.”

Trump reminded people of the assassination attempt he survived last year, along with other highly publicized shooting incidents. The 79-year-old said, “From the attack on my life in Butler, Pennsylvania, last year, which killed a husband and father to the attacks on ICE agents, to the vicious murder of a healthcare executive in the streets of New York, to the shooting of House majority Leader Steve Scalise and three others, radical left political violence has hurt too many innocent people and taken too many lives.”
20-year-old Thomas Crooks tried to kill Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania in 2024. The Secret Service killed the shooter on the spot. Multiple reports have claimed that the attacker was a registered Republican voter.
He literally got up and yelled back “FIGHT”!

While his angst over Kirk’s murder was evident, the mention of his own assassination attempt was a little uncomfortable, as the President is touted to be a hardcore attention seeker. He likes to take credit for anything and everything good that happens around the world, and wastes no time blaming the Democrats and his predecessors for things that go wrong.
In his video message, Trump then circled back to Kirk’s murder and promised that his “administration will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity and to other political violence.”
Kirk was known for his provocative style that won him a loyal support base but also strong opposition. Trump credited him for bringing several young voters and voters of colour over to his side during last year’s presidential campaign. “Charlie was the best of America,” the President said after his death.
He called the killer a “monster” while adding, “An assassin tried to silence him with a bullet, but he failed, because together, we will ensure that his voice, his message, and his legacy will live on for countless generations to come.”
“Today, because of this heinous act, Charlie’s voice has become bigger and grander than ever before,” he added.
FBI Director Kash Patel earlier revealed that a suspect was taken into custody but was released after 90 minutes of interrogation. He ensured that the investigation is going on and his department “will continue to release information in interest of transparency.”
