It was an unreal scene outside a Manhattan federal courthouse. Fans of Sean “Diddy” Combs took to the streets as they celebrated his partial acquittal with wild enthusiasm. There was dancing, chanting, and probably one of the most bizarre scenes, where his fans celebrated by squirting baby oil at each other.

The jarring display of unruly behavior came after the music mogul was found not guilty on major charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.

Crowds had gathered on Worth Street and quickly turned the sidewalk into a party zone. There was chanting and cheering for the artist. Fans were chanting “Free Puff!” as the music blared. Anyone could have mistaken fans to be family members just by the way everyone was hugging each other in joy.

One woman was seen rubbing oil on her arms and chest as people around her cheered. There was another man in a blue top hat who described the moment as “a freak-off freedom fest.” This was apparently a wordplay on the allegation of Diddy’s now-infamous parties.

Combs was found not guilty of the most severe allegations. He was accused of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. If found guilty, he could have landed in jail for decades to come. These charges would have been enough for a longer and severe sentence.

However, the jury found him guilty on only two counts of interstate transportation for prostitution. These are the lesser charges, yet they still carry serious weight and could result in up to 20 years in prison.

The outcome of the trial was mixed, but no one could tell that from the mood among supporters. Fans were overwhelmed with relief. Many saw the acquittals as a win against the convictions.

Tes Harper is a popular content creator and self-described Diddy fan. Harper expressed the feeling that was among many who stood outside the courthouse. “They didn’t have enough for the big stuff. They tried, but this wasn’t RICO material,” Harper said. “Yeah, he got hit with something, but they wanted a takedown and they didn’t get it.”

Others echoed that sentiment. Fans also suggested the government had overreached in its case. They claimed that the government tried to end Diddy.

The prosecution built its case around several disturbing allegations. Diddy was accused of long-term abuse, manipulation, and coercion. One of the accusers was his former partner, Cassie Ventura. She had painted a picture of a toxic relationship, which was fueled by drugs, control, and intimidation. There were other witnesses who backed up her testimony. They also gave the jury a glimpse into the dark side of Combs’ private life.

Yet, despite the explosive claims, the jury ultimately did not find sufficient evidence to convict him on the most serious offences.

The turning point in the investigation was when federal agents raided Diddy’s Los Angeles mansion earlier this year. They uncovered a large stockpile of baby oil at the location. These baby oils were previously described in court as a staple at his “freak-off” parties. There were illicit drugs and unregistered firearms found at the premises.

These discoveries added weight to the narrative of excess and criminal activity. However, these apparently weren’t enough to convince jurors of a coordinated criminal enterprise.

The sentencing is scheduled for October. Till then, Combs will remain in custody. His bail has been denied due to his being a flight risk and past alleged violence.

His supporters, however, continue to call for leniency. As the legal system prepares to determine his fate, one thing is clear: for fans of Sean Combs, the party isn’t over, at least not yet.
