Donald Trump has questioned Zohran Mamdani’s citizenship and threatened to arrest him if he doesn’t cooperate with ICE operations. He also called Mamdani a ‘nut job’ and alleged that the 33-year-old socialist is a ‘communist’. Trump continued to attack the New York mayoral candidate while also talking about the Alligator Alcatraz detention center in Florida.
The president was asked for a message for Mamdani after his victory speech to stop the ICE agents from deporting the neighbors. He responded, “Well, we’ll then have to arrest him.”
Mamdani’s supporters are horrified after this false accusation of him being here illegally. Mamdani came to the US when he was 7 in 1998 with his family. He naturalized in 2018 and has been a US citizen since then. He has built a successful career in politics. Trump threatened to deport him despite his citizenship because he was born in Uganda.
Now he lives in New York with his wife Rama Duwaji, who’s a Syrian American. He will become the first Muslim to hold this role in the city. Trump defended his statement, saying a lot of people think he’s here illegally, and he will look into everything. He called him a communist, not a socialist.

According to him, Mamdani is bad news, threatening to withhold funding from New York if he is unable to do the right thing. Just a few weeks before the election, Trump had threatened to deport Mamdani and left everyone in shock.
The most probable cause of these comments is Mamdani’s attempt to block ICE arrests in the city. On the other hand, the Trump administration is putting several illegal citizens in detention centers and deporting them. Trump has a mass deportation plan to get rid of all illegal immigrants. He is even interested in extending the same plan to US citizens who have committed certain crimes.
Mamdani replied to accusations from Trump, saying he will not accept this intimidation. He declared that Trump’s remarks do not represent democracy and created fears for every New Yorker who speaks up and refuses to hide.

Many people are in favor of Mamdani and responded to Trump’s controversial statement. They are defending Mamdani since he’s an American citizen. Moreover, one user claimed this wouldn’t have happened if Kamala was in the office. Another one called out the statement to be unjust and racist. One more chimed in saying Trump embarrasses the office every day.
In the past, Trump has used identity against Kamala Harris to discredit her work. So this isn’t the first time he has been discriminating. He questioned if she was a Black woman. Moreover, he also accused Obama of being elected illegitimately since he was born in Hawaii.
