A Cuban man who was living in the US for sixty years died in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody in Miami. This news is doing the rounds, sparking outrage among the people right after another detainee died under ICE custody.

Isidro Perez had chest pains last Thursday. So, he was taken to the hospital considering his condition, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. A thorough investigation is going on to find the cause of death. People are outraged that a 75-year-old man died in poor health in ICE custody. Perez arrived in the US in 1966. He was arrested on June 5th.

According to the data, Perez has been convicted in the past for having controlled substances in 1981 and 1984. No other details related to the operation were publicly available. Perez started having several medical issues post his arrest.

He had a condition called unstable angina. It’s a serious heart condition that causes extreme pain. After medical care, he was discharged 8 days later. Since his chest pain was unexpected, it may have caused his death. Given the outrage over eight deaths so far this year in ICE custody, they have released a statement. According to the press release, the department is ensuring the detainees are safe and secure in humane environments.

Besides, medical care is available to the individuals throughout their stay. People were shocked by another death that took place in ICE custody a few days ago. Johnny Noviello died in the Miami detention center.

The cause of death of the 49-year-old also remains a mystery and is still under investigation. According to the data, eleven people died in ICE custody last year. One more notable case was that of a Haitian woman who died last April. Marie Ange Blaise spent 2 months in the detention center.

Florida lawmakers have called for a transparent investigation after this suspicious death. Blaise also had severe chest pain before she died. The lawmakers are pushing for better protocols in place for the safety of detainees.

With several deaths and proof of inhumane treatment by ICE, people have been questioning the conditions in the detention center. There have been photos and videos of people being taken in unmarked vans and zip ties around kids’ hands. So everyone is hoping for some accountability and transparency from the ICE department amidst this immigrant crackdown.

People are questioning ICE over possible oversight in cases where people have medical conditions and require emergency care. They have already called out on the cruelty of detaining a 75-year-old man with a heart condition. More than half of the deaths that occurred in ICE detention have been in Florida.
