Pro-life Republican Kat Cammack is sharing her life-threatening experience with ectopic pregnancy last year, calling it a personal crisis. She has been an advocate for anti-abortion laws; however, she suffered from the consequences of the same law in Florida State when she needed medical care herself.
The state has a six-week abortion ban where healthcare providers can be prosecuted for giving reproductive care. She blames the left for the delay in care to her due to fear-mongering and healthcare providers being confused about the right action to take.
Ectopic pregnancy is where the fertilized egg implants in the fallopian tubes instead of the uterus. For a woman, it is a life-threatening condition if immediate medical care isn’t given. In the case of Cammack, she was five weeks pregnant and ended up having heavy bleeding due to ectopic pregnancy.
Such a pregnancy is not viable and can even cause death in some cases. She asked for methotrexate instead of the surgery to expel the embryo. This drug can help stop the growth and dissolve the cells without surgical intervention. However, doctors were afraid of the criminal charges amidst a six-week abortion ban in the state.

Their license could also have been suspended, so they were hesitant to provide the care she needed. She called Governor Ron DeSantis’s office for help and even took out state law on her phone for the hospital staff to read. Although her call was unanswered, she was able to get the drug after arguing for hours.
Under the state law, treatment for ectopic pregnancies and life-threatening conditions is allowed. The prosecution and strict action under this law have denied several women needing medical care even in life-threatening conditions. And many medical providers have expressed their views on the law being unclear.

Meanwhile, Cammack has blamed the left for causing so much fear among the professionals and not the law that she supports. She blamed how left being involved in the law has made health care professionals paranoid. She stated it was absolute fear-mongering at its worst. After this nightmare of a situation in May last year, Cammak is expecting again, which is due in August.
Her revelation about this in an interview in the Wall Street Journal has led to a new debate where supporting anti-abortion laws can cause problems even for those who are in favor. The law will not spare them if they need help in a life-threatening condition.
Being pro-choice and coming out of such a harrowing experience, Cammack stated she stands with both Democrat and Republican women who need medical care in case of an ectopic or miscarriage.
