We seem to be living in a time where the cracks in everyday families are growing deeper, where strange, heartbreaking incidents hint at a society quietly unraveling under the weight of unseen mental battles.

Criminal mentalities are often found in people who try to harm others, seeking revenge and stuff. But if the same thing happens within the family, and that too at an increasing rate, it is indeed something serious to consider.

Such an event happened in Louisville, United States, when a 40-year-old mother tried to beat her 6-year-old daughter to death with a hammer, and what’s more terrifying is that she was hitting the child’s head with her sibling around.

Zeinab Abdi – the mother, was eventually brought into custody on Thursday and has ultimately been charged with an attempt to murder case along with domestic violence. As per  the post-arrest complaint obtained by Law & Crime, the officers of the Metro Police Department’s 2nd Division of the city at around 12:49 p.m. on Thursday responded to a “trouble run” call in a residence from the 2900 block of Wilson Avenue.

Police eventually found out that the child had been heavily “struck in the head with a hammer by her mother.”

When the responders arrived at the scene, they discovered a 6-year-old girl “down” in the house, and they figured out that the child suffered from “blunt force injuries to her head.”

Authorities also stated that the girl had “multiple skull fractures and brain bleeds.” The emergency medical personnel immediately transported the girl to the nearby Norton Children’s Hospital, and the doctor stated that she had a critical condition. The 6-year-old condition reportedly remained the same till as of Friday morning

The Department of Homicide unit eventually entered the scene concerning the nature of the child’s injuries and took over the investigation. Subsequently, Abdi was taken into custody following her attack on her daughter.

The police wrote in the complaint: “During a post-Miranda statement, the listed suspect [Abdi] stated she frequently becomes extremely angry and has difficulty controlling herself. She stated today, she became overly angry and struck the victim in the head with a hammer an unknown amount of times.”

Abdi’s son, whose name and age were not disclosed, reportedly provided a similar account of this fierce behavior toward his sister. The document states – “During an interview with the listed suspect’s son, he stated while restraining her after the assault, she stated to him ‘let me finish her’ while attempting to return to the victim.”

Currently, Abdi is staying at the Louisville Metro Detention Center, and as per reports, she was scheduled to be brought into the court for her arraignment Friday morning. Several neighbors of the family, who talked with the Louisville CBS affiliate WLKY, stated that they were shocked to hear the allegations.

“I think it’s just terrible,” neighbor Donald Edison told the station. “I don’t know what type of pressure the child’s mother is under for her to do something like that.” Another, named – Brittany Lindell, who lives in that area, said that the news of this attack gave her “cold chills,” calling it “disgusting.” She continued saying – “I don’t understand how someone could get to that point of anger,” she said, adding, “especially with an innocent child.”
